BUILDING RUNS ON SCHEDULE AT RML
RML has released a second 'sneak peak' illustration of its all-new TC1 challenger, to be run by customer teams in the forthcoming FIA World Touring Car Championship.

As previously reported, the multiple WTCC champions are currently completing the build of six RML Cruze cars in line with the new FIA WTCC TC1 regulations – a complete overhaul on last year's model which powered Yvan Muller to his fourth drivers' crown.

A complete 'clean-sheet' design, the 2014 project does provide some extra challenges with limited timescales before the season gets underway in Morocco in just over two months. The team of designers and mechanics have been working flat out to ensure the cars will be delivered on time. Parallel teams have also been working hard on the new evolution of RML's ultra successful 1.6L engine.

With design sign off for final componentry due next month, the delivery of customer cars is expected by mid-March.
Ron Hartvelt, Director of Motorsport said: “We're making very good progress on this project. Our manufacturing and build crews are incredibly busy and we've taken on additional support staff for these important next few weeks as we complete our build plan. Everything is running on schedule on both chassis and powertrain; we just have to complete our final step on the design phase with componentry and then we're straight into build and installation. As always, we have a very dedicated, hard-working group at RML working on this project and we all look forward to seeing the new Cruze come to fruition when it takes to the track.”

In Short...

TARQUINI TESTS THE HONDA IN SPAIN
The new Honda Civic for the 2014 WTCC completed its proper test at Motorland Aragón in Spain.
JAS Motorsport ran one car in full TC1 specs from Tuesday to Friday; the weather was mostly dry except on Wednesday, when the rain poured on the Spanish track.

The team focused on collecting the largest amount of data possible, in order to indentify the car’s strong points and the areas where to work for improving the performance.

Gabriele Tarquini was in charge of most of the work and commented: “The car is really fun to drive. Very fast in cornering, with a lot of grip thanks to the bigger tyres and the downforce. It is also sensitive to all the set up changes. Is a very challenging car to drive.”

Tiago Monteiro had the opportunity to take the wheel for one hour, while Norbert Michelisz attended the test and heard his fellow colleagues’ impressions.

The Honda team will test again during the second week of February.

SEASON’S OPENER DEFERRED BY ONE WEEK
The 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship opening event will be postponed by one week.
The WTCC Race of Morocco that had been originally scheduled for taking place at Marrakech’s Circuit Moulay el Hassan on April 6, has been deferred to April 13 to meet with a request coming from local authorities.
The rest of the WTCC calendar remained the same.

CORONEL: WE HAVE A STRONG POTENTIAL
Tom Coronel is one of the FIA touring cars veterans. The Dutch driver joined in the 2002 European Touring Car Championship and has not left since.

His WTCC record includes four race victories, two Yokohama Trophy titles and the fourth position in the 2011 Drivers’ Championship.

This year he will be racing again for ROAL Motorsport – his fourth season with the Italian team; however, they have dropped the BMW 320 TC car and switched to the RML-built Cruze.

HUFF IN DAYTONA 24 HOURS
Rob Huff gets to enjoy competing in long distance races. After winning the 25 Hours of Thunderhill and finishing second in the Dubai 24 Hours, the 2012 WTCC champion takes part this weekend in the famous Daytona 24 Hours.

Huff joined the Enzo Potolicchio’s 8Star Motorsports and shares the team’s Oreca FLM09 Chevrolet prototype with the team owner, Tom Kimber-Smith and Mike Marsal.

“I’m excited to be making my 24 Hours of Daytona debut. The limited experience I gained during the ‘Roar’ test was certainly enough to whet my appetite and I cannot wait to comete in the actual race at the wheel of the 8Star Motorsports’ prototype,” Huff said.

Yesterday’s qualifying proved disappointing for Huff and his team-mates as they failed to post a valid time because of a gearbox failure. This will force them to start from the back of the grid.
