Leh Keen (Charleston, SC) had the wheel of the WeatherTech Porsche for the start of the twice around the clock race. The 67 car field saw the green flag at 2:10 p.m. ET. Following a disappointing qualifying run, Keen was motivated to make up positions. Coming from the eighth row he turned the car over to Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) in fifth position.

"It got a little wild at the start," Keen said. "Things settled down a little and I was able to start running some consistent laps. We were able to work our way toward the front of the field. I was happy to get that first stint out of the way. I feel I am in the groove of the race and so is the crew. We have a good start going. The car feels good, the track was a little dirty and greasy, but that is endurance racing."

MacNeil took the second stint.

"Early on in my stint I had a pretty big wheel lock-up in the left rear," MacNeil said. "I had to drive through the Bus Stop a couple of times because I came into the turn sideways. Every time I went to the brakes at the entry of the Bus Stop the car wanted to go sideways. It was a tough first stint. I was able to keep the car in the top five, I need a better stint next time out."

The young MacNeil handed the car over to Shane van Gisbergen (Auckland, New Zealand) in fourth.

"There was a big accident during my stint, so I sat out on the track for over an hour. I hope the guys are alright," van Gisbergen said. "The WeatherTech Porsche was pretty good. I was in the car longer than I thought I would be, but it was good to go from the day into the night. I was a bit conservative the first time out. Once I got into a rhythm my times really came down. The car is good, the strategy is good and we are running in second position."

Shane Lewis (Jupiter, Fla.) is currently in the car running in second position in GTD.
