Freiberg Becomes First Female (Overall) Winner At Daytona International Speedway

Fall-Line Motorsports co-drivers Ashley Freiberg and Shelby Blackstock claimed their first IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge victory in Friday's BMW Performance 200 at Daytona International Speedway. With the win, Freiberg became the first woman to win overall in Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge history as well as the first woman to claim a victory (overall) at Daytona International Speedway. It also was the first Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge victory for her teammate Blackstock, the son of American country music singer Reba McEntire.

"I can't describe the feeling - the start of the season could not have gone any better for Fall-Line Motorsports and BMW," Freiberg said. "I've got to thank Fall-Line for putting me in one of their cars. Shelby [Blackstock] helped me a ton, and he really drove the wheels off the car. Looking back at what happened last year with my ride in GT3 Cup falling apart while leading the championship, and the many days I have spent working hard to get behind the wheel again since then, it all makes this win that much sweeter."

The pair of Freiberg and Blackstock was originally scored second but when the No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW M3 was excluded from the race due to a technical infraction, Freiberg and Blackstock were credited with the win to open the 2014 season.

Freiberg, of Bondville, VT, competed in a tailored season within the 2013 IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama Series. While only competing in six events in 2013, Freiberg led flag-to-flag at Watkins Glen International while also becoming the first female Platinum Cup winner as well; giving her the Series points lead. Overall, she recorded six top-five finishes in her six outings in 2013, turning many heads. Sports Illustrated Magazine named her a "Face in the Crowd". Following the racing season, she was named a member of musician Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation team for the ING NYC Marathon, where Freiberg broke four hours and recorded a time in the top 30 percent of over 50,000 runners.

In addition to Fall-Line Motorsports, Freiberg's racing efforts are also supported by: TRUECar and Bell Helmets. Freiberg's next race in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge will be its debut at Sebring International Raceway on Friday, March 14.
