WeatherTech Racing Fourth in GTD 18 Hours into Rolex 24

At the 18 hour mark of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship 52nd running of the Rolex 24 Hour At Daytona, the No. 22 WeatherTech Porsche is running in fourth in the GTD class.

Shane van Ginsbergen, of Auckland, New Zealand, got into the No. 23 WeatherTech Porsche at just before the halfway mark in the race and continued to lay down consistent laps. This kept the WeatherTech Porsche in the top five before handing it over to teammate Shane Lewis, of Jupiter, Fla., in the late early morning hours

"It was pretty cool running here in the dead of night from 1 a.m. until almost 4," van Ginsbergen said. "I was able to do some really good laps. We ran the car right to the end. I used up the rest of the brakes and turned it over to Shane Lewis,. The traffic kind of settled down in the night and everyone was driving quite reasonable. I was able to get a nice rhythm going. I am ready for some sleep."

Lewis started his first of two stints in fifth place and was able to move the No. 23 machine up to third just before his first pitstop on lap 409. At that point, the team put fuel in the car and did some brake work before sending Lewis back on track for his second stint.

"The first stint went really well," Lewis said. "We were just rocking through the laps and kept everything clean. Then, we had that really long yellow. We came in and did some break work and took on fuel, but we didn't change tires. And, well, the tires just never came back to me on the second stint. We thought we could double up with no problem. I didn't want to be going that slow out there. It was a decent pace. But, to stay up near the front was pretty tough."

Just before sunrise, Lewis got out of the car and teammate Leh Keen, of Atlanta, got in and is still in the car at the 18 hour mark.

The final hours of the race will be aired live on FOX Sports 1. MRN Radio will broadcast the Rolex 24 in its entirety on IMSA.com, MRN.com, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90). WNDB-AM 1150 is the local radio affiliate.
