TEAM CHEVY AT DAYTONA: Driver Notes & Quotes

MAX ANGELELLI, NO. 10 WAYNE TAYLOR RACING CORVETTE DP:
THINGS LOOK LIKE THEY ARE GOING WELL
"The is really fast. As you can see, this is going to be a race between so many different cars. We are all very close. It will be very tight."

THIS MUST BE LIKE A FAMILY REUNION. JORDAN AND RICKY TAYLOR ARE BACK WITH THE FAMILY TEAM, WAYNE TAYLOR IS BACK DRIVING AGAIN AND YOU HAVE BEEN A LIFELONG FAMILY FRIEND.
"This is a great weekend. Wayne did really well if you saw him. He went six laps without driving but got in the car here and did so well. He did very few laps in practice. He got in the car and did very well. I'm very happy for them. And Ricky and Jordan - everyone knows they have won man races. So we are a very strong team."

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R
HOW DISAPPOINTING IS THIS?
"This definitely wasn't the result everyone was looking for. All in all, the car was quite fast. We weren't the fastest car out there but a podium was definitely in the cards. I feel really sorry for all the guys who worked so hard to get us here. We will come back to Sebring stronger."

THE CAR MUST HAVE FELT GOOD IN THE OPENING STINT
"For sure. For me the opening stint was about me staying out of trouble and trying to make up as much of the ground as possible. I really thought I would get by all the GT Daytona cars and then have a big gap up to the GTLM cars but it wasn't that big when I finally came through. I thought I needed a safety car to bunch everyone up but we were right there at the end of my first double-stint. After that, we all had a good couple of stints to get into the lead. It all went downhill from there, unfortunately. It's a new car with a ton of potential. We are just scratching the surface. It already is a great car. We just need to iron out the bugs."

RYAN BRISCOE, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R
YOUR FIRST RACE IN THE CORVETTE DIDN'T GO AS YOU HAD HOPED. BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS LOT TO DIGEST BEFORE SEBRING?
"I was having a great time driving it. The car was really good to drive. It was the best-handling car as far as I could see. We were really good and really strong, and we were definitely contenders until we started having some overheating issues. It was a real honor to be part of Corvette Racing for the first time. I'm looking forward to more."

RICKY TAYLOR, NO. 10 WAYNE TAYLOR RACING CORVETTE DP:
HOW IS THE RACE PACE?
“In the four classes, there is a lot of variance in pace – about 10 -15 seconds of lap time. Every car is quite different, and every time you come up on a car, you don’t know the exact speed. As the race goes on, they are kind of filtering out. I think the race track is getting more and more open and there is going to be better and better racing. The car is really good. We just had Max’s (Angelelli) little incident (off-track) last night, and Jordan (Taylor) had slight contact with someone. Other than that, the car has been really really good.”

HOW WAS YOUR STINT? “It was very good. I think our Velocity Worldwide car is very strong. The traffic plays such a big part. You can go 30 minutes with great luck, and an easy time, and think everything is going well. Then you will go 45 minutes with just the worst traffic you can imagine. Just as quickly you think you can settle down it comes back to haunt you.”

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOUR DAD DRIVING?
“It has been so cool. I left the pit box when he got in the car. I was watching on TV. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Now that his run is done and my run is done, we can go relax together and let the other two do the job and the pit crew do the job. It has been very special.”

MAX PAPIS, NO. 31 WHELAN CORVETTE DP:
ON THE RACE SO FAR FOR THE TEAM
“Really excited to be here at Daytona with the great history of the race. For myself it is great joy to be here in the Whelan Corvette. It is just a fantastic, fantastic feeling to see everyone united, and to see the commitment NASCAR is having with this. My friend and teammate Boris Said is going to bring the car in. We had two major issues, but beside that, the Whelan Corvette is strong, strong all day. We are going to go out there and finish these last hours in a good fashion.”

ELTON SAWYER, ACTION EXPRESS RACING TEAM MANAGER
WHAT IS THE STORY WITH THE NO. 5 SHIFTING?
"We're not real sure what's exactly going on. We don't want to go to the garage and change it. Christian was having more trouble than Sebastian. So he can manage it right now. So we're going to stay with that."

SO YOU DON'T THINK IT'S SOMETHING IN THE COCKPIT? IT MIGHT BE SOMETHING FURTHER BACK IN THE CAR?
"Right now, that's what we're thinking. But we don't know for sure. So we'll keep running and manage it how we can."

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R
WHAT DID YOU HEAR WHEN THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE?
"I got warnings on the dash coming out of NASCAR Turn 4 that the gearbox was hot. Then it got real hot real fast. As I worked down the gears at Turn 1, it was very rough-sounding at the back of the car and was getting worse. The car was running OK. I could still go very quick. I did about half a lap. But when I got to Turn 6, there was a lot of smoke out of the back of the car so I pulled down to the inside."

JOAO BARBOSA, NO.5 ACTION EXPRESS RACING CORVETTE DP:
ON PENALTY FROM RESTART EARLY SATURDAY MORNING (7:32 a.m. was green flag):
"The penalty was for the restart for contact with a GT car going through the Bus Stop. I thought he had given me some room: but he didn't see me and we hit side-by-side. When we race hard, we have to do quick decisions very quickly. But the race director didn't agree with my decisions, and it is unfortunate that we got a really harsh penalty on my view."

THE CAR IS INCREDIBLY STRONG; ARE YOU ABLE TO CONTEND FOR THE WIN DESPITE THE PENALTY?
"Yes, definitely! We are only five seconds behind the leader at this point (2 hours, 30 minutes remaining). The team did a great job in recovering the lost lap that we had before, and we are still in contention. Still a long way to go."
