Collection For The Allan Simonsen Memorial Fund Successfully Completed

Exactly seven months after Allan Simonsen's fatal accident at Le Mans, the Danish Automobile Sports Union (DASU) and Young Driver Aston Martin Racing could hand over the money collected by the Allan Simonsen Memorial Fund to Carina Lundbye Hansen, Allan and their daughter Mie-Mai. It happened at a moving ceremony during the Danish Motorsport Awards on 22 January at the Copenhagen Circus. The collection was handed over by His Royal Highness Prince Joachim, who preceded the presentation with a personal speech to Carina Lundbye Hansen. Carina responded by formally thanking everyone who had supported her and Mie-Mai since the accident.

Before that, DASU´s former President Carl Christian Hansen opened the ceremony with an emotional speech about Allan. Amongst other things, Carl Christian Hansen said: “Allan was a safe, talented and reliable driver. After winning the Formula Ford Championship in Denmark in 1999 he went abroad, first to England and then to Australia where he built a great career for himself. In 2013 he drove for Young Driver Aston Martin Racing and, along with Kristian Poulsen and Christoffer Nygaard, began the season with a fine class victory in the World Cup race at Silverstone. Allan knew he was taking part in a dangerous sport. But motor racing was his life, his identity, his work, and he loved the sport."

They were joined on stage at the Copenhagen Circus by Young Driver AMR-team owner Jan Struve, DASU´s Chairman Bent Mikkelsen and Allan Simonsen's brother Johnny.

The collection for the Allan Simonsen Memorial Fund has been a great success. Donations ranged from DKK 50 and up to some very large amounts. The donations have come from all over the world, and show better than anything else just how liked and respected Allan was in the world of motor racing.

The collected amount of DKK 2,326,426 (approx. 311,753 Euro) has been divided equally between Carina and Mie-Mai.

DASU and Young Driver Aston Martin Racing thank everyone who has supported the collection from the very bottom of their hearts.
