Huff To Drive Dream Machines At Goodwood 72nd Members' Meeting

Rob Huff has joined the star-studded list of names who will attend the 72nd Goodwood Members’ Meeting (29-30 March).
The 2012 FIA World Touring Car Champion from Newmarket will race in the Gerry Marshall Trophy for Group 1 touring cars from the mid-Seventies to early Eighties, before taking the wheel of an ex-Rene Arnoux Renault Formula 1 car.

Huff, who will contest the 2014 FIA WTCC with the manufacturer LADA Sport LUKOIL team, is fresh from a stunning run of success in endurance racing.

The 34-year old helped Rotek Racing to a dominant victory in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill during December, before finishing second overall in the 2014 Dubai 24 Hours earlier this month and taking second in the legendary Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona LMPC class last weekend.

Huff has a penchant for historic motorsport and jumped at the chance of manhandling a 1980 Rover 3500 SD1 with Tom Scott Andrews against a bumper field of Triumph Dolomites, Ford Capris and Mazda RX7s, all in authentic period liveries that are guaranteed to spark nostalgia.

Meanwhile, his F1 outing will enable him to live out a long-held dream of piloting a thoroughbred grand prix machine from the sport’s infamous turbo era.

He will drive a mighty 1982 Renault RE30B – as raced by Rene Arnoux in 1982, when the manufacturer team notched up four grand prix victories – during the weekend’s high-speed demonstration of turbocharged F1 machinery that will feature 29 other iconic cars from Ferrari, McLaren and Lotus, to name but a few.

“I can’t wait for the 72nd Members’ Meeting,” said an enthusiastic Huff. “I’ve been involved in the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival before and I’ve always had a really good time both on and off the track. To race a Rover SD1 will take me back a few years, because my granddad used to take me to school in one every day, and to get behind the wheel of the ex-Arnoux turbo Renault is going to be pretty special. I’ve never driven a grand prix car before and I’m told that this machine in particular is a bit of an animal!”
