Blancpain GT Series 2014 - Weekly Digest 2

Olivier Lainé (team manager): “We are pleased to continue our adventure with Karim Ojjeh. Karim knows the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 very well by now and this will help us to achieve our future goals as 2014 will be a year full of challenges for our team.”

Karim Ojjeh (driver): “It was a very hard winter season in terms of deciding whether to stay with Boutsen and McLaren or whether to switch to another team and car. The amount of work and time spent in talking to the teams and manufacturers is not something that should be underestimated. In the end, I am putting my trust for the 2014 season in the Boutsen Ginion team again. The team will do its utmost best to persevere and McLaren has some unfinished business left. Come April and the first race in Monza, we will be ready to fight!”
Three Ferrari 458 Italia cars for AF Corse

AF Corse, the 2012 Blancpain Endurance Series Pro-Am champions and last year’s runners-up in the same category, will again be a force to reckon with during the 2014 season.

The team run by Amato Ferrari will enter three cars in the Blancpain Endurance Series: one in the Pro-Am category and two in the Gentlemen Trophy. The line-up for the first car (Ferrari #50) will be announced soon, but the two latter cars will be driven by Filipe Barreiros, Peter Mann and Francisco Guedes (Ferrari #51) and Yannick Mallegol, Howard Blank and Jean-Marc Bachelier (Ferrari #49) respectively.

Furthermore, AF Corse will continue to give technical support to Team Ukraine, which will enter two cars in 2014. The drivers line-ups will be announced soon.

Amato Ferrari (team principal): “ “We are proud of taking part once again in the Blancpain GT series. The enthusiasm of our drivers is proof of the success of the championship. The large number of participants and the high level of the teams involved is always a challenge and pushes us to excel and continuously improve our results. »
Ecurie Ecosse aiming for 2014 Blancpain Endurance Series Pro-Am title

Ecurie Ecosse powered by Black Bull confirmed its plans to run a 2014-spec BMW Z4 GT3 in the Blancpain Endurance Series.

After finishing third in last season’s British GT championship, the Scottish outfit will now add the fiercely competitive Pro-Am category of the Blancpain Endurance Series to their challenges for 2014. The core of last season’s driver roster remains, with Alasdair McCaig and Andrew Smith accompanied by Olly Bryant for all five rounds, while Ecurie Ecosse stalwart Joe Twyman joins the line-up for the blue riband Total 24 Hours of Spa.

Ecurie Ecosse can call on the support of numerous long-term partners in their title bid. For a fourth season Barwell Motorsport will oversee its on-track programmes, while this will be the third campaign featuring BMW Motorsport’s involvement.

Andrew Smith (driver): “This is a very exciting programme for Ecurie Ecosse. After a highly successful 2013 we looked at a number of options for this year. We believe that, with the combination of BMW’s Z4 GT3, the team at Barwell and a first-class driver line-up, we absolutely have the right ingredients in place to achieve success.”
Aussie quartet heading for Spa

Lago Racing of Australia has confirmed its entry for the upcoming Total 24 Hours of Spa (23rd- 27th July).

The All-Australian quartet consists of Roger Lago, DavidRussell, Steven Richards and Steven Owen. Their weapon of choice is a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. Even though Australian entries for the Blancpain Endurance Series jewel in the crown are rare, Lago Racing’s is not a premiere. The most recent Australian team taking on the daunting challenge of the Total 24 Hours of Spa was Juniper Racing in 2008.

Roger Lago (team owner): “After we had a successful 2013 Sepang 12 hour-race last September finishing 2nd overall, my next goal was to try a 24-hour race. I have wanted to race at Spa for a very long time, so this year I have an opportunity to do both. I am really looking forward to it. Reiter Engineering will be assisting my team in many different areas at Spa, not just on the track. My three Australian co-drivers and I can't wait to arrive and cut some laps on one of the best tracks in the world.”

Brands Hatch tickets on sale

Top class international GT racing returns to Brands Hatch in 2014 for the first time since 1996 with the Blancpain Sprint Series. Tickets for the meeting on 16th-18th May 2014 are now on sale.

The 4,206 km long Kent Circuit is one of the best loved motor racing circuits of Great Britain, especially since a natural amphitheatre offers unrivalled views of the action from various vantage points.

With a free pit walk, huge supercar display, several support races and much more to entertain the whole family, the Blancpain Sprint Series event is set to be a highlight of the motorsport year.
