Peyton Saxton Fifth and Seventh In LVMS Road Course Action

Peyton Saxton of Las Vegas took home a fifth and a seventh place finish in his two most recent INEX Legends Pro Division feature events on the road course at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Saxton, 15, is considered by many to be one of the West Coast's top motorsports prospects. He started sixth in his first feature, which turned out to be a caution-filled affair.

In his first year of racing in the INEX Legends Pro class, Peyton is learning as much as he can about racing on a road course. He stayed in contention the entire race before being passed on the last restart and ending up seventh.

After the race he was disappointed but still in good spirits.

"I would have liked to have been at least up in the top five," he said. "But there were so many yellows that it was hard to really stay in any kind of rhythm and pass cars. I'm learning something every lap on the road course. Seventh was OK but I think we have a better car than that so I'm looking forward to tomorrow's race."

The next day, Peyton was in the top five on the speed charts in practice, setting the tone for a solid day.

Starting 8th in his heat, he raced up to fourth and was passing for third when he carried a bit too much speed into a corner and his left front tire slid off the track. He hit the rumblestrips and flattened that left front tire but managed to carry the ill-handling car to a fifth place finish.

He would start ninth in the feature.

"I had to put a new left front tire on for the feature," Peyton commented. "That's a bit tricky when you have three older tires and one new one on a road course because the car's handling is totally different depending on which way you are turning. We were really loose early going right and really tight going left until the tire was broken in enough to balance the handling out somewhat."

Adapting to the car's needs, Peyton charged his way to seventh before slipping on a restart and falling all the way back to 13th. He kept his cool throughout and eventually passed his way right back to the seventh position where he would finish.

"The result wasn't what we'd hoped for in today's race but considering the heat race incident and having to deal with the new tire, it was a good run. I am thankful to my team and all of my supporters for all they've done to help our race team. We actually passed a lot of cars and I feel like I'm getting better each time out on this road course."

Peyton will be right back on the road course at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this Saturday and Sunday, February 1st and 2nd for another pair of races. In two weeks, he starts going in circles again with a race at the Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in Blythe, Ca.
