Ford Racing Director Jamie Allison Comments on New NASCAR Format

Yesterday, NASCAR announced a change in the format of how it will determine the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. The championship field will now feature 16 drivers with four being eliminated in three race intervals during the final 10 races of the season. The system guarantees that four drivers will have a chance at winning the championship in the final race of the year – the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Jamie Allison, director, Ford Racing made the following statement about the new process:

"NASCAR's new championship playoff format certainly puts more emphasis on winning races, no matter if it's the first race or the 26th one. And that's great," said Jamie Allison, director, Ford Racing. "We also know that the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Ford Championship Weekend will be one of the most exciting battlegrounds and a 'must-watch' event in sports."
