Tactics And Tyre Care - Sweden Opens With Steady Shakedown

Cruising rather than full throttle at the Rally Sweden – the Shakedown at the second round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) was all about saving the tyres. Unusually warm weather for Sweden – the temperature at the Service Park in Hagfors is currently hovering around freezing point – transformed the Shakedown in Råda into a damp route. The gravel is already starting to peek through here and there. With this in mind, all the WRC drivers took a leisurely approach in order to look after the tungsten spikes on their tyres. Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) in the number 2 Polo R WRC ended “free practice” in second place. World Champions Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia in the #1 World Rally Car from Wolfsburg were twelfth fastest. Andreas Mikkelsen/Mikko Markkula (N/FIN) were particularly cautious ahead of their “home rally”, coming home in 28th place.
