Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 Unveils New Race Livery For 2014 World Championship

Only a few days away from the first test of the year, scheduled at Almeria on 6th and 7th of February, the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 unveils the livery of the Suter MMX2 that Belgian Xavier Siméon will race in the 2014 Moto2 World Championship.

FEDERAL OIL is an oil brand produced by PT FEDERAL KARYATAMA. Founded 6th June, 1988, Federal Oil is the only local oil company in Indonesia, owning two factories located in Rawa Gelam and Rawa Bali. These factories are located in the same area, The Pulogadung Industrial Estate, East Jakarta, Indonesia. Federal Oil is market leader in Indonesia for motorcyle lubricants: 29 main dealers are supported by more than 10.000 retailers, while 3.200 Federal Oil Centres ensure product availability and authenticity for the consumers across Indonesia. Federal Oil adopts the newest and sophisticated technology for its Lube Oil Blending Plant in Indonesia, called TVMC Technology, and was also the first in the World to use Robotic Technology for filling oil.

FAUSTO GRESINI “Together with Federal Oil, our partner for the third consecutive year, we have set ourselves the objective of being consistent frontrunners in the forthcoming Moto2 World Championship: we are confident that we can achieve very good results with Xavier Siméon, a very fast and experienced rider. During the two-day test that will begin tomorrow in Almeria our main goal is to continue the good work we already did last November, in order to reach a good base ahead of the first Grand Prix”.

Waiting to see the new bike in action in Almeria, we retraced together with engineer Alessandro Giussani, Suter Racing Chief Operative Officer, the steps that have led to the definition of the 2014 machine, which last November, during the very first tests, revealed a really high potential.

2012: the MMX2 is extremely fast, but tricky to understand
“The starting point - says Giussani - is our second generation Moto2 machine, the MMX2, which replaced the previous MMX, used in 2010-2011: introduced in early 2012 and substantially developed upon the requests of our top riders of that period, including Marc Marquez, the MMX2 immediately proved to be an extremely fast bike, but tricky to understand. Basically, only few riders were able to exploit its full potential and, moreover, adapting the set-up to the changing conditions and to the different circuits was really difficult. Halfway through the season we have introduced changes to make the bike ‘easier’ to ride for a greater number of riders: we achieved this result working on chassis and swingarm stiffness, but doing so we lost a bit of performance”.

2013: a good compromise between performance and usability
“Obviously, in 2013 our efforts were targeted primarily to regain the speed we had lost, trying to reach the best compromise between performance and usability. The new project proved to be well balanced, and despite Kalex could count on the best riders - Pol Espargarò and Scott Redding - many Suter riders, especially in the latter part of the season, clinched several podiums, improving constantly their performance”.

2014: even more efficient on corner entry
“We started working on the 2014 package being aware of our strengths, including cornering speed, so we focused on a further refinement of the chassis behaviour under braking and corner entry - an aspect on which Kalex was slightly superior in 2013. During the tests carried on last November, we noticed a good improvement in that area, confirmed by our riders’ comments. Siméon, in particular, praised the good front end stability. We also worked on the swingarm, developed every year in order to improve traction and we refined various areas of the bike - footpeg mounts, for example, have been redesigned - although it’s hard to detect it externally. Speaking about aerodynamics, we have already developed a new aerodynamic package specifically for fast tracks that it will probably be introduced at the Italian Grand Prix, as happened in 2013”.
