Phoenix International Raceway Announces The Return Of The NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series

Phoenix International Raceway President Bryan R. Sperber announced today that the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series will return to Phoenix on Friday, February 28 with the second running of the Toyota 120. PIR remains the only track in the United States to host a race for the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series.

“We are excited to host the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series and the Toyota 120 again this year,” Sperber said. “Last year’s inaugural event was sensational, on and off the track, and we look forward to building on that success this year and in the future.”

The race will increase in length from the inaugural 75-lap event in 2013 to 120 laps this year. A full field of nearly thirty drivers from the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series is expected to participate, with drivers coming from over a dozen Mexican states including Chihuahua, Jalisco, Sinaloa and Mexico City. Both the 2013 series champion Rodrigo Peralta from Queretaro and the defending Toyota 120 champion Abraham Calderon from Nuevo Leon are scheduled to compete.

“We’re excited that the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series is returning to Phoenix International Raceway for the second running of the Toyota 120," said Les Unger, national motorsports manager for Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. "Our ongoing relationships with PIR and the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series, and this unique opportunity, enabled us to capitalize on both of those partnerships. The inaugural series event in the United States last March proved to be a success both on and off the track, and we expect the same from this year’s event.”

“It’s great to be back in Phoenix for the second year. For the competitors in the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series it is exciting to share this upcoming series of events with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series,” stated Federico Alaman Gonzalez, General Director of NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series. “I want to thank Bryan Sperber for his enthusiasm in making this happen for the second year. Also want to thank NASCAR and the France family to help us build such a great sport in our country and now crossing the border.”

Located approximately 20 miles west of downtown Phoenix in Avondale, PIR has long been an economic driver in the West Valley. The inaugural Toyota 120 generated millions of dollars in local economic impact for the area.

“As home to Phoenix International Raceway, Avondale is delighted to host the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series in our community,” said Avondale Mayor Marie Lopez Rogers. “From an economic development perspective, Arizona recognizes the vital trading partner we have in Mexico, and events such as the NASCAR Toyota Mexico Series Toyota 120 are key to bringing both tourism and business interests together. I was honored to be a part of the inaugural race last year, and I am excited to see this event grow and flourish in the years ahead.”

Tickets to the Toyota 120 are available with prices starting at just $20, and tickets for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, March 2 start at $25.
