Baldassarri Continues Productive Test At Almeria. Simeon Soon Back On Track

Moto2 testing continued today at the Spanish circuit of Almeria: with the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 rider, Xavier Siméon, forced to miss the test following yesterday’s crash, Lorenzo Baldassarri was the only rider on track aboard the Team Gresini Moto2 Suter. The Italian rookie completed several laps keeping a good pace and eventually setting a best time of 1’38”5. Given the strong wind encountered today, the team decided to remain in Spain also tomorrow, for another day of testing.

Meanwhile, Xavier Siméon has undergone successful surgery to reduce the deep cut on his chin: the Belgian rider will likely be forced to miss the next test, scheduled in Valencia from 11th to 13th February, but he’s expected to come back in the saddle at Jerez the following week.

"I have completed another very positive day of testing, very useful to get familiar with the bike. Today I have set myself the goal of making several laps in a row, trying to be as constant as possible, without ups and downs, and without taking too many risks. I was therefore not focused on lap times, but on getting a good rhythm on the long distance. Tomorrow we will have another day of testing available and we would like to continue in this direction. Regarding the bike, we only made a few small changes to the front end to regain the feeling that I lost because of the strong wind”.

"First of all, I’m glad that Xavier is feeling better already: the surgery to reduce the cut on his chin was successfull, so he should recover quickly. He obviously wants to get back in the saddle as soon as possible, but we don’t know yet if he will be ready to ride for the test session scheduled for next week in Valencia. He should, however, return to full strength in time for the tests scheduled in Jerez from 18th to 20th of February. Today we took to the track only with Baldassarri, who worked really well: he completed a productive day of test with the team, showing a good pace in multiple laps. Tomorrow we will be again on track with Lorenzo, in order to let him take further confidence with a new category”.
