Carlin F3 Test Prize With Lets Race To Reality

Multiple F3 champions Carlin and Lets Race, the UK’s only full motion F1 simulator centre have joined forces to offer racing drivers the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a real life racing car. Together, Lets Race and Carlin will take competitors from the simulated race world to reality in a competition that will culminate with an assessment process at Carlin’s factory and a selection panel including Former F1 and Motorbike champion John Surtees, OBE with an F3 test for the championship winner.

Open to any budding driver over the age of 16, the first round of Lets Race to Reality will be held on Lets Race’s 10 full motion simulators in Horley, Surrey. The winners of round one will then be invited to take part in a karting event hosted by the programme’s partners Buckmore Park in Kent, where several heats will whittle down the competitors to the most skilled racers.

A final selection process at Carlin’s factory in Surrey will allow participants a real inside glimpse into the world of a professional racing driver. Finalists will take part in various exercises including a simulator session with a race engineer, before taking part in an interview process with racing industry professionals, including John Surtees and Trevor Carlin.

The winner of Lets Race to Reality 2014 will receive a day’s testing in a Formula 3 car, complete with a dedicated team of mechanics, data engineer and race engineer.

Speaking about the competition Trevor Carlin said, “We’re very excited to be working with Lets Race in offering such a great prize to budding racers. It will be very interesting to see what talent Lets Race to Reality will expose and who the final winner will be. The team have a great relationship with John Surtees and to have him help us select the final winner while supporting the Henry Surtees Foundation at the same time makes this even more exciting.”

John Surtees added, “Henry had his first ever track experience in a kart at Buckmore at the age of eight and went on to drive with Carlin in Formula BMW and Formula 3. The team has been at the forefront of developing young driver talent and share in success with them. The Lets Race initiative in creating this championship and opportunity for would-be young drivers is unique. The opportunity to compete at Lets Race and then go to a shoot-out at the famous Buckmore Park Kart Circuit in order to qualify for further evaluation with Trevor Carlin and his team in order for the winner to get a fully day of testing in a Formula 3 car, is something that one would normally only dream of.”
