Motor Racing Network Off And Running With Speedweeks Coverage

Motor Racing Network opened its 2014 broadcast schedule with 25 hours of coverage from last month’s Rolex 24 at Daytona. For February, MRN will match that … and then some … with more than 29 hours of exclusive radio and streaming content from Budweiser Speedweeks to help launch NASCAR’s 66th season.

Saturday’s Sprint Unlimited opened a stretch of eight races in nine days for MRN as it heads into its 45th year of broadcasting. That’ll culminate with the 56th running of the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 23.

In addition to servicing its nationwide network of radio affiliates, MRN will provide a number of webcasts heard only at MRN.com. The online schedule included a special airing of "Winged Nation" on Feb. 14, on location from the World of Outlaws sprint car season opener at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida; and features the second annual UNOH Battle at the Beach on Feb. 18 from Daytona International Speedway.

A full week of pre-"500" programming opens today with a one-hour special "1979 Daytona 500: NASCAR Storms America," a look back at pivotal events 35 years after "The Great American Race" was first televised live from start to finish. Air time is 7 p.m. (EST).

Two special editions of "NASCAR Live" will air with host Eli Gold. The show for Tuesday, Feb. 18, features NASCAR President Mike Helton and on Wednesday night, Gold welcomes Sprint Cup Series champions Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart along with Danica Patrick.

The Budweiser Duel twin qualifying races for the Daytona 500 are going under the lights for the first time this year, with Motor Racing Network airing complete coverage starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20.

MRN streaming content will include Tuesday’s Battle at the Beach, a showcase for two of NASCAR’s top regional series: the K&N Pro Series East and the Whelen Modified Tour. Coverage will begin at 6:45 p.m.

The NextEra Energy Resources 250, opening race of the 2014 Camping World Truck Series, will air Friday at 7 p.m. (EST). Matt Crafton is back to defend his 2013 championship. The following day, MRN will broadcast the DRIVE-4-C.O.P.D. 300 Nationwide Series opener at 12:45 p.m.

Budweiser Speedweeks concludes with MRN’s complete coverage of the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 23, where Jimmie Johnson will open his bid for a record-tying seventh championship as defending race winner. He’s attempting to become the first driver to win back-to-back 500s since Sterling Marlin in 1994 and 1995.

All told in 2014, MRN is broadcasting 113 live events from 37 different venues - spread across NASCAR’s three top national series, as well as exclusive radio coverage of the inaugural TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.
