2014 Daytona: JR Motorsports NASCAR Nationwide Race Preview

Quotes | Regan Smith

"Our speed was great during the [Daytona] test. I was really impressed with all three of our cars. They were fast and they turned well. I think with the rules package changing slightly and taking the spoiler off, it’s helping these cars be a little more stable in the air and in the pack. I was pleased. I’m proud of what JR Motorsports has done heading down there.

"This year is a lot different. My team has Ryan Pemberton leading it this year. We have a new engineer and a lot of new faces. It feels great. Anytime you have changes like that you wonder how everyone is going to get together and how the chemistry will be. I’m really pleased with how everyone is coming together. Ryan has done a good job putting the right people in the right places. Things are clicking really smoothly."

Notes | No. 7 Team

SMITH POISED FOR TITLE RUN IN 2014: Following a career-best season that included two wins, a third-place finish in the Nationwide Series points championship and a Most Popular Driver Award, Regan Smith embarks on his second consecutive year driving the No. 7 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports. Smith became the only NNS regular with multiple wins in 2013.

OLD FACES IN NEW PLACES: During the offseason JRM restructured its team personnel, moving Ryan Pemberton into the position of crew chief for the No. 7 crew. The pairing of Smith and Pemberton is a familiar one, as the duo previously worked together during Smith’s opening season in Sprint Cup competition in 2007.

STRONG EFFORT: Smith was within sight of the checkered flag in last year’s season opener at Daytona International Speedway before being collected in a multi-car accident. Prior to the crash, Smith led 23 laps with the No. 7 Chevrolet. With eight NNS starts to his credit at Daytona, Smith’s best finish of eighth came in last summer’s Firecracker 250.

RESTRICTOR PLATE STATS: Since joining JRM fulltime, Smith has recorded one win (Talladega Superspeedway), a top-five and two top-10 finishes in three restrictor plate starts. Additionally, he has led laps in each of those three events.

MEET REGAN SMITH AT RAGU/BREYERS DISPLAY: Fans are invited to meet JR Motorsports driver Regan Smith for autographs on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the Ragu/Breyers display in the Daytona fan zone.
