2014 NHRA: Brittany Force And Castrol Edge Looking To Go Rounds In Phoenix

Brittany Force doesn’t like to sit still, especially during race reason. With the NHRA opener in Pomona behind her, she’s looking forward to getting back in the cockpit of her Castrol EDGE Dragster at this weekend’s CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals in Phoenix. Even though it’s been less than two weeks since she was strapped into her dragster, to Brittany, it feels like months. That’s how professional race drivers are and Brittany’s no different.

With 2014 being Brittany’s sophomore year in Top Fuel, she’s learned a lot from both being in the driver’s seat and listening to her crew. With some solid laps under her belt, the team led by Todd Smith and Dean Antonelli are ready to tame her 10,000 horsepower dragster so it’s a consistent and repeatable machine on each run down the strip.

Coming off a career best of 3.77 seconds and running 326 mph during the NHRA Circle K Winternationals two weeks ago, she’s knows the new team has come a long way in just over one month. “We’re ready for Phoenix and I’m stoked to get my Castrol EDGE Dragster qualified in the top half of the field and go some rounds the Sunday,” said Brittany Force.

“Going into Phoenix, I’ll be doing my same routine and hitting the practice tree to improve my lights. We have some tough competition out there but I’m excited for our next race. I’m confident my guys will figure everything out. Having a whole new team on board, it does take a while to get into a routine, not just me as a driver but everyone working together. It’ll take a few races to get it all figured out,” said Brittany Force

Brittany knows the risk and challenges in racing Top Fuel. She also knows it takes surrounding yourself with talented people along with focus and determination. She wants to win badly but not just for the team or her sponsors, but for herself. With any luck, this could be Brittany’s weekend to breakout, go the distance, win the race and get her due in the winner’s circle.

Last year in just the second race of her career racing David Grubnic, Force lost a close first round tire smoking battle to the Kalitta Racing backed driver. Both drivers smoked the tires furiously pedaling their dragsters down the track. Force had a lead and momentum before her chutes prematurely deployed allowing Grubic to squeak by for the win at the finish line.

“That first round (in Phoenix) was the first time I stepped on it and had to pedal it. It was a good experience for me since I had never done that before. That is not something you can test. I stepped on the gas twice and it got a little close to the wall so I lifted. We think my chutes came out because of the five second timer on my Castrol EDGE dragster. That slowed us down but it was a good experience for me,” said Force following the tough loss.

With more experience and nearly a dozen round wins under her belt the 2013 Auto Club Road to the Future Award winner is looking forward to success in the desert this weekend.
