Positive Tests On Bike Set-Up For Antonelli At Jerez Bastianini Hampered By The Injured Hand

The Jerez circuit hosted today the second of three days of pre-season testing ahead of the 2014 Moto3 season: the riders of the Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3, Niccolò Antonelli and Enea Bastianini, continued the work that they are carrying on since the beginning of February on their bikes, getting positive results ahead the third and final day of testing at the Andalusian track.

Niccolò Antonelli tried various chassis solutions, including two new links, also testing a different riding position and a different weight balance, with the aim to further improve the performance over race distance. Without looking at the lap times, at the end of the day “Nicco” was sixth in the combined classification with 1’46”806.

After yesterday’s crash, Enea Bastianini completed today a discrete number of laps aboard his KTM on one of his favourite circuits (last year he won here the MotoGP Rookies Cup race) : unfortunately, the pain in his right hand didn’t allow him to improve his lap time of 1’49”054.

“Today we tried a lot of new parts on the bike, focusing on them, without looking at the stopwatch. I liked several things, although of course in these cases, doing a lot of tests on set-up, there is no immediate feedback on lap times. I am therefore pleased with today’s outcome: tomorrow we will try to improve again, continuing the work on the bike”.

ENEA BASTIANINI (1'49"054 - 51 LAPS)
“Unfortunately today I struggled a lot because of the injured hand, especially at the end, after having completed many laps. After two crashes, in Valencia last week and yesterday here in Jerez, today we decided to approach the track in a more gradual way: so, it is clear that I can do better than what I put on display so far. Despite all this things, we still managed to work on the bike and I've already noticed some improvement, although we are still a bit far from a good setup for this track. Today Karel Hanika, that I beat here last year in the MotoGP Rookies Cup, has been very strong, and that makes me confident”.

“This second day at Jerez has been positive: Niccolò carried out several set-up tests, which will continue tomorrow, remaining once again within the group fighting for the top positions. We continue to stay where we expect to be, and this is a further confirmation of our competitiveness. The disappointment for what happened yesterday to Bastianini is still strong, because the fall has ruined all his three days of testing: today in fact Enea was not in the best physical condition and has experienced a painful day, a situation that will be repeated tomorrow. It's a shame, but I am convinced that the mistake made yesterday represents a useful lesson for his future”.
