How does it feel to be at Carlin for the 2014 season?

It’s a jump for us this year to be coming to a bigger team but I’m excited about the season. It’s also nice to be welcomed into a team that has had big names such as Sebastian Vettel and Robert Kubica through their doors – that’s a good heritage to aspire to. Once again there are three of us in the team [Gelael and Blomqvist] so we now have the chance to prepare together and separately ahead of the first test however I think we can definitely do well this year.

You’ve been in to the factory and met everyone, what are your first impressions?

For sure it’s fantastic here! The workshop is big and clean, the people are nice and there’s a good atmosphere so I feel we will be able to work really well together throughout the season. I’ve been on the simulator here today as well so from here on it’s a case of getting as many laps in as possible before testing starts and before each round with my engineer.

You’re teaming up as Jagonya Ayam with Carlin for 2014, talk us through that opportunity.

I’ve been working with Sean [Gelael] for a long time since karting and through Formula Pilota China and now we have Tom [Blomqvist] with us too so it’s fantastic that the three of us get to experience this together. I think also the fact that Tom is now on board gives Sean and I the chance to learn a little more from someone who has more experience in a Formula Three Championship. Together we should be able to push each other and produce some good team results.

It must be nice to drive alongside friends in the team.

Sean and I have known each other and been team mates for a long time so we know how each other work and find we are able to learn well together. I also have a good relationship with Tom, we are friends and can look at each other’s data but we always have the intense rivalry on track but never without respect.

What are your hopes for the season?

This is my second year in the FIA European Formula Three Championship and I’m sure we can do well. The entire line-up for the championship is very strong and for sure every single person out there will be targeting wins and the championship, as will we; the team will be pushing hard from the start.

Are there any tracks that you’re looking forward to racing at?

I think that the tracks on the calendar this season are great but I really hope to do well at my home circuit, Imola, which would be pretty special. It’s towards the end of the season and I think that if the championship is decided there it would definitely add to the atmosphere. Other than that my aim is to make it to Macau again at the end of the season.

Tell us a little about the lead up to the season during the winter.

I’m very sports orientated and take my fitness and training seriously. I like to be out on my bicycle and play football with friends whenever I can however everything revolves around focusing 100% for the season.
