Kyle Benjamin Takes Win In World Series Finale At New Smyrna

16-year-old racecar driver Kyle Benjamin, a development driver for Roush Fenway Racing, ended Speedweeks on the strongest possible note, winning the 100-lap Bruce Gowland Memorial last Saturday at New Smyrna Speedway, the final event for the Super Late Model division in the 48th annual World Series of Asphalt.

The victory was Benjamin's first this season - he collected 15, including two ARCA Series wins, in 2012 and 2013 - and came after a seven-race span in which he won two pole awards and collected six top-five finishes. His only outlying race happened to be his NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour debut last Tuesday on Daytona International Speedway's Battle at the Beach course, in which his night ended prematurely with a broken tie rod.

On Saturday, everything was smooth sailing for Benjamin, who was piloting his family-owned entry and took the lead from former NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Steve Wallace on lap 77 and never relented.

"This was pretty incredible," said Benjamin. "We fought handling issues all week, just trying to get the car perfect for some of the shorter races here. This is big for us. It's our first 100-lapper of the year and we went out and won it. Michael (Masters, crew chief) and everyone else here gave me a great ride tonight."

It was announced last weekend that Benjamin would compete in select ARCA events this season for Roulo Bros. Racing, as part of his affiliation with Roush Fenway Racing.

Kyle Benjamin (@kylebenjamin71) is a barnstorming Super Late Model driver, who is running a sweeping national slate of Late Model and ARCA Series races in 2014. Hailing from Easley, S.C., Benjamin scored 16 victories over the last three years across seven different racetracks. He was voted as the "Number One Pick" in the 2013 Speed51.com Short Track Draft by a panel of short track racing writers and analysts. For more information, please visit kylebenjamin.com.
