Rotax Max Challenge This Friday At Yas Marina F1 Circuit

The UAE UAE Rotax MAX Challenge is headed to the YAS MARINA F1 CIRCUIT this Friday 28th February 2014. This prestigious venue is already making headlines, boasting an all-time record attendance of 70+ drivers for this round. This is a unique driving experience for our seasoned karting veterans and is the most popular venue on the calendar this year.

With special thanks to the Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management Team(ADMM), our drivers will line up in grid formation in front of the impressive North Grandstand of Yas Marina's "handling circuit." Organized by Al Ain Raceway Kart Club, the Rotax Max Challenge is a 12-round kart series showcasing the best drivers in the country in five race classes according to age and performance. As karting is the grass roots of motor racing, the Yas Marina F1 Circuit is the perfect venue to allow racing enthusiasts to get a "wheels on" opportunity to showcase their expert driving skills navigating the same turf as their F1 heroes with the goal of landing on the top step of the podium at the end of the day.

Antonio Kekati, Al Ain Raceway Managing Director said, "For the 2nd year in a row we are grateful to be invited to host a round of our Rotax Max Challenge at the Yas Marina F1 Circuit. The sport of Karting continues to grow here in the UAE and we are finding more and more talent emerging to be competitive with the rest of the world at an international level."

With only 3 rounds remaining in the 2013-2014 season there are still important Championship points needed in order to maintain a final 3 finish which guarantees a trophy and a chance to represent the UAE at the annual Rotax Grand Final held every November. In the DD2 Shifter Kart Class Oliver George leads the pack in first over Piers Pakenham-Walsh who is 64 points behind. Maurits Knopjes falls in 3rd just 20 points behind Piers. Maurits Knopjes holds a safe lead in the DD2 Shifter Kart Class MASTERS class over Jonathan Mowatt with Patrick Jarjour just 3 points behind Jonathan. In the Max Masters Class Kevin Day is looking to maintain his 10 point lead over Raed Hassan with Duncan Foster only 2 points behind Raed.

In the Max Junior Class Pasqual Pook maintains a significant 132 point lead over Giulio Peroni. Taymour Kermanshahchi will be challenging Giulio for second place as he only trails in third by 6 points. The Jr. Class welcomes new Emirati drivers Amna Al Qubaisi and Saeed Al Ali who recently joined this Kart series with this being their 4th race in their karting careers.

In the Mini Max Class Tehmur Chohan is leading his group but Yahya Houston is not far behind holding second with Daniel Booth holding onto third. In the Micro Max class 10 year old Sem Knopjes continues to dominate the field with 9 year old Theo Kekati only 21 points behind in second followed by 9 year old Jamie Day just 28 points behind Theo. Our Bambino Class of 5-7 year olds will also make an appearance on the YAS Circuit with their focus being on time trials rather than an official race format. Harry Hannam currently leads the Bambino's Class. Rashid Al Dhaheri is only 10 points behind Harry and Chris Knopjes follows in 3rd place just 24 points behind Rashid.

This Friday promises some excellent racing not to be missed. There will be Heats going on all day with the Finals starting around 4:00pm to be followed by Trophy Presentation.

All spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend. Johnny Rockets will be open and serving lunch starting at 12:00 and has a very nice view of the track.

The final 2 rounds to complete the 2013/1014 Rotax Max Challenge season will be held on the following dates:
Round 11 - March 21 in Muscat, OMAN
Round 12 - April 11 and 12 at Al Ain Raceway (2 days racing to complete one round)
