Hometown Hero Dale Earnhardt Jr. Locks In Spot At 2014 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race

NASCAR’s most popular driver and Kannapolis, N.C. native Dale Earnhardt Jr. raced his way into the 2014 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway by way of his second Daytona 500 win, kicking off the 2014 NASCAR season in thrilling fashion.

Earnhardt Jr., who won the Sprint All-Star Race as a rookie in 2000, will look to take home the $1 million prize when NASCAR’s best take the track during the opening weekend of Charlotte Motor Speedway’s 10 Blockbuster Days of Racing at the Sprint All-Star Race on May 17.

“Getting a win early in the season should take some pressure off of Dale Jr.,” said Charlotte Motor Speedway President and General Manager Marcus Smith. “Now he can let it all hang out on the track and take even more chances. I think this is just the start of Dale Jr. providing some memorable moments for his legions of fans this year.”

To celebrate Earnhardt Jr. and his No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports team’s big win, Charlotte Motor Speedway is offering fans special ticket packages during the 10 Blockbuster Days of Racing, May 16-25. For only $88, fans will receive a premium frontstretch ticket to either the Sprint All-Star Race or Coca-Cola 600 and access to a Wild West-themed hospitality area modeled after Dale Jr.’s own Whisky River bar in Charlotte. The offer, which is valid for 88 hours and ends Friday, includes a $10 voucher to enjoy a barbecue buffet, drinks and unlimited mechanical bull rides. For a limited time, fans can also purchase a pit pass for just $88 and get an up-close look at the cars, drivers and race day preparations before the Coca-Cola 600.

Other drivers already eligible to race in the 2014 Sprint All-Star Race include: Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne, Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, David Ragan, Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle, Martin Truex Jr., Brian Vickers, Ryan Newman, Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Jamie McMurray, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin and Kurt Busch.

Sprint All-Star Race ticket holders will enjoy a free concert by country music mega star Jake Owen as part of the Ultimate All-Star Backyard Experience, presented by Kingsford and Pennington. The 90-minute concert will take place in the infield, and ticket holders can upgrade to the Golden Ticket and get VIP access to the show for just $20.
