Hometown Racer Peyton Saxton Ninth In Final LVMS Road Course Series Race

Peyton Saxton, 15, of Las Vegas, NV finished ninth in his final LVMS Road Course race of the season Sunday, overcoming an ailing motor and mechanical issues from Saturday's race.

Saturday started with Peyton finishing fourth in his heat to earn the 7th starting spot in the 30-car main event.

Unfortunately, it only took a couple of laps before things started to unravel for the talented youngster. "One of the bolts that holds the right front brake caliper on came out and another one got loose so that caused the brake to keep locking up. The motor was also laying down once it got hot. I was happy we finished even if not where we wanted to."

Sunday's race saw Peyton again 4th in the heat. This time he started 8th in the 30-car feature and did his best to wheel his sharp looking No. 10 to overcome the still-ailing motor. He managed a 9th place finish.

"I learned a lot in this series about racing on the road course and it was a ton of fun," Peyton said after the race. "It's so much different than racing on ovals even in the way you have to think about your driving style."

Peyton was also given the Mechanic of the Series award by track officials. This was the first time this award was presented to a younger racer.

"That was humbling," Peyton said. "I do my best to take care of not just my car but my customers' cars as well. We had to change a motor and fix a rear end housing in one of the cars on Saturday night to have him back ready for Sunday so it's nice to be appreciated. I thank God for the opportunity to use what I've learned to help others."
