The initiative will result in Status Grand Prix management and technical staff providing mentoring and advice to students at Repton School, enabling pupils to interact directly with an international motor racing team engaged in single seater and sportscar racing.

Winners of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport in 2009, Status GP has competed in the GP3 Series for the last four years, scoring seven race victories with drivers Robert Wickens, Daniel Morad, Alexander Sims, Antonio Felix da Costa and Marlon Stockinger. The team has also competed in selected events in the European Le Mans Series and FIA World Endurance Championship including the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2012 and 2013.

F1 in Schools™ in the UAE is managed by Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, hosts to the final round of this season’s GP3 Series championship, and Repton School has been involved with the initiative for the past three years. Ever since its introduction, the competition’s popularity within the school and reputation and success in the UAE has grown from strength to strength. The school was last year made the Machining and Support Centre for Dubai, and the Design and Technology teachers work very closely with Yas Marina Circuit to provide support for students and teachers in the local area and beyond.

The collaboration with Status GP will further enhance Repton’s F1 in Schools™ portfolio, but more importantly are the invaluable opportunities and experiences it will bring to the students through this prestigious educational initiative.

Speaking on behalf of Status GP, team founder Mark Gallagher said, “I had the privilege of visiting Repton School in Dubai last year and seeing first hand the enthusiasm and skill shown by their F1 in Schools™ team. The school itself is an outstanding example of innovation, providing the best in British education for families in Dubai, and as a UK-based team we are looking forward to working with the students and helping them with their project. This is also a great way for us to help motivate a new generation of engineers and sports industry professionals in the UAE and Gulf region.”

Speaking on behalf of Repton School, Design and Technology teacher and F1 in Schools™ coordinator Jonathan Wyn Roberts said, “This unique collaboration will be the first of its kind in the competition and we are honoured to be working with such a distinguished organisation as Status Grand Prix. Not only will this be a statement of intent to our fellow competitors, we are hoping that it will also spark a new era of creative and innovative ways for F1 in Schools™ teams and students to interact with the real world of motorsport to enhance their knowledge and experiences during the competition.”

Speaking on behalf of the Repton students, Findlay Broch-McCallum added, “As Team Manager of Project Speed I am humbled to have so much support in the F1 in Schools™ competition. Our whole team is honoured and delighted to have Mark Gallagher and everybody at Status Grand Prix guide us in our planning and preparation. The amazing experience of Mark and his colleagues will be an incredible source of wisdom as my Project Speed team mates and I work to achieve our goal of winning the 2014 F1 in Schools™ competition for our friends, parents and school, Repton in Dubai.”

The relationship will see students participate in webinars with Status GP, sharing information about their projects and meeting the team when it competes in the GP3 Series races supporting the FIA Formula One World Championship event in Abu Dhabi on 21-23 November, 2014.
