Cooper Tires Winterfest Wrap-up - Day 2 from Barber Motorsports Park

INDY LIGHTS PRESENTED BY COOPER TIRES

The 2014 Winterfest testing for the Andretti Autosport Indy Lights drivers finished today with two practice sessions at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, AL.

Bookmark and Share
Zach Veach, No. 26 RePLAY XD

First session - P3 at 1:16.102
Second session - P4 at 1:15.728

"Out of the four days of testing we've had, today has definitely been the most successful. We didn't have any issues with the car, so that was a nice benefit for us to have just to work on setup. The only bad thing is, right now, we're behind those three (test) days compared to everyone else. If we were testing three days ago, I think we'd have the fastest car, but we just have to develop and catch back up to everyone else. Our next test is in a few weeks, and we'll do everything we need to to get the RePLAY XD car back up to the front row because, at the end of the day, that's where all of us want to be."

Matthew Brabham, No. 83 United Fiber & Data/MAZDASPEED

First session - P5 at 1:16.222
Second session - P1 at 1:15.160

"After the four full days of testing, I'm coming out of this test a lot more confident than I was going in, that's for sure. I think we proved that we definitely have the pace to run up front, and we've been running in the top-two positions time-wise in nearly every single session. I'm really confident and very happy how the team's working; they've done an awesome job and I can't thank the United Fiber & Data/MAZDASPEED guys enough. I'm really looking forward to the first race in St. Pete. It's going to be really interesting to see where everyone ends up when testing's finished and we get to the first race, but so far so good for us."

PRO MAZDA PRESENTED BY COOPER TIRES

The Pro Mazda crews wrapped up Winterfest with third and fourth-place finishes
in the winter series championship.

Garett Grist, No. 27 DaVinci Foods/Lander Property Management
Practice session - P2 at 1:20.259
Qualified P4 at 1:21.329
Finished P3, third in the Winterfest Championship

"Well today was a bit of a rough day. It started out with us second in practice; we were a tenth (of a second) off of first. The car was really good - I learned a lot. With today being only my fourth day of a race weekend in a Pro Mazda, every session I'm learning a lot. We wanted to race confidently but I'm not sure what happened as the race ended up being so much different than practice. So the DaVinci Foods/Lander Property Management guys and I will look at things and figure it out before we get to St. Pete. Overall it was a good Winterfest, I really enjoyed it and I'm excited to get the season started."

Shelby Blackstock, No. 28 Starstruck

Practice session - P4 at 1:20.685
Qualified P3 at 1:21.364
Finished P6, fourth in the Winterfest championship standings

"Winterfest was pretty disappointing for the No. 28 car. We had a good Race 1 of this winter series, but everything after that went downhill for us. Today we had a really good car, had a bad start but we were working our way back up. Unfortunately, at the end after some really hard racing, we ended up off the track twice and the damage was done. I'm hoping we got all of our bad luck out of our system now here at Winterfest. I can't wait to start the season and hopefully our luck changes for the better. A big thank you to my Andretti Autosport crew - they worked really hard this week to give me a good car. I'm excited to come back to Barber Motorsports Park in April."
