2014 Phoenix: Justin Allgaier NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Preview

Headed to the West Coast...Justin Allgaier will be making his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) in the No. 51 BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevy. Allgaier made his first start at the 1.0-mile track in November of 2013, where he finished the race in the 31st position after sustaining damage in an accident. In the two NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) events at PIR last season, Allgaier had third and second place finishes, respectively.

Sunoco Rookie of the Year...After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Daytona, Allgaier is currently third, just four points back from leader Austin Dillon, out of eight drivers competing for the award.

Daytona 500 Recap...Allgaier made his first career Daytona 500 start at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday, February 23. An afternoon race turned into a Sunday night primetime event under the lights after rain drenched the area. It was an eventful evening for the rookie driver who was involved in two accidents. The second accident, on lap 195 of 200, forced the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy to the garage, relegating Allgaier to a 27th-place finish.

Justin Allgaier on Phoenix International Raceway:

"I'm looking forward to getting back to Phoenix [International Raceway]. I made one of my four Sprint Cup starts there last season and it will be nice to go back to a track for the second time. I also had really good results there last year in the Nationwide car, so that gives me confidence going into the race. The guys at HScott Motorsports have been working really hard back at the shop to give me a really good car. It will really be up to me to qualify well and maintain good track position."

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Phoenix International Raceway:

"I'm ready to get to Phoenix [International Raceway]. It will be nice to get to a regular style track versus a superspeedway. We will take advantage of all of the practice time and this will be Justin's second time there in Cup car, so that will be helpful as far as feedback. One big difference this weekend is the new qualifying format. Qualifying at Phoenix is very important because of track position, but the more time you are on the track with a bunch of cars, the more you are running the risk of an accident. Justin just needs to be nice and smooth this weekend and stay out of trouble, and I think he'll have a good a result."
