SACHS Start V8 Supercar Season on Top

SACHS brand ambassador Craig Lowndes started the 2014 V8 Supercar season in fine style, claiming three podiums finishes in as many races at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide aboard his Red Bull Racing Australia Holden Commodore.

Results of second, first and second, have placed Lowndes in the Championship lead, with 35 further races scheduled for the year.

Lowndes's win in the second race was particularly sweet, with the new event format seeing the race held in the twilight.

The victory was the 95th of his record breaking career, and comes a year after he won the first ever race with the New Generation V8 Supercars on the streets of Adelaide.

"In race two I knew I had to be good off the grid and I managed a rocket start and got away," said Lowndes.

"(Jamie) Whincup and (Scott) McLaughlin both gave it a red hot go at closing the gap, but I was up in the clean air which is where you need to be for a race like this.

"To be fair I prefer the longer races but the new format was definitely exciting and entertaining.

"Hopefully the fans enjoyed the later start, the cooler weather and maybe even saw a (brake) disc or two glowing.

"Overall it was a fantastic weekend. We had multiple winners, multiple manufacturers on the podium and I think the category is really healthy," said Lowndes.

Like much of the V8 Supercar field, Lowndes's VF Commodore is fitted with SACHS Formula Matrix dampers, and also a carbon racing clutch.

The next V8 Supercar race meeting will be alongside the Formula 1 World Driver's Championship at Albert Park from March 13-16.

In other world motorsport already completed in 2014, the parent company of SACHS, ZF, has already picked up a one-two result from the World Rally Championship round in Sweden.

The Volkswagen Polo R WRC combination of Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen dominated the final standings, with their machines fitted with twin-plate clutches and dampers by ZF.

In January it was announced that ZF would be an official series partner of the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship for the 2014 season, with the merged competition bringing ZF products to the forefront in the North American market.

Outside of sports cars, ZF Race Engineering components are also found in all cars competing in the DTM, Japanese Super GT, the nine different Porsche Carrera Cups run worldwide and the VW Scirocco Cup, with components also supplied to teams racing in the World Touring Car Championship, Formula 3, as well as various other open wheel and off road categories.

Locally, all SACHS and ZF produced road car components are available through ZF Services Australia.
