2014 Las Vegas: Justin Allgaier NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Preview

Viva Las Vegas...Justin Allgaier will be making his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) in the No. 51 BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevy. Allgaier and the No. 51 team will get a little extra track time this week at LVMS as the track is open for four hours of testing on Thursday. Statistically, in his NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) career at LVMS, Allgaier has done very well. He has one top-five, and four top10s in his five career NNS starts at the 1.5-mile track, with a best finish of second.

Sunoco Rookie of the Year...After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Phoenix, Allgaier is currently tied for second place with Cole Whitt.

See Justin...Justin will appear at the Chevy stage 8:45 - 9:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, March 9 for a Q&A session.

Phoenix Recap...Allgaier made his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) on Sunday afternoon. However, Allgaier's first foray into NASCAR's new knock-out qualifying format didn't go as planned. On his first lap in qualifying, Allgaier got loose in Turn 3 at PIR and backed his No. 51 BRANDT Chevy into the wall. The team brought out the backup car and Allgaier started 43rd. On lap 171, Allgaier was running in the 26th position and was involved in an on-track incident that damaged his left-front fender. He spent the remainder of the day logging laps, ultimately finishing in the 30th position for HScott Motorsports.

Justin Allgaier on Las Vegas Motor Speedway:

"I'm ready to get on track at Las Vegas [Motor Speedway]. The last two weeks haven't gone as I would have liked. There's test time on Thursday, and that's going to be a huge help to me. The more track time I can get in the car, the better. I really enjoy Las Vegas because it is a very fast mile-and-a-half track, and I've done really well there in the Nationwide car in the past. I'm looking forward to a smooth weekend, and to have a solid race."

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Las Vegas Motor Speedway:

"Las Vegas [Motor Speedway] is a very fast track. We are testing there on Thursday, which is great for our team because it will give Justin more track time. It's also a mile-and-a-half track which is the bread and butter of the season, so whatever we learn on Thursday, we can apply it to several race tracks. Overall, we just need a solid weekend without any wrecked racecars."
