GEICO Honda Team Has Solid Night In Daytona

The GEICO Honda Supercross team had one of its best overall races of the season with every rider finishing in the top seven at the Daytona Supercross by Honda on Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway.

Wil Hahn rallied to a sixth-place finish in the 450cc class, and Blake Wharton led the 250 team with a fourth. Justin Bogle was fifth and Matt Bisceglia seventh in 250 at the famed racetrack.

Hahn made a terrific ride for his sixth, overcoming a slow start by being one of the fastest riders on the track in the closing laps. He was as low as 17th at one point in the 20-lap race but sped up the leaderboard.

"The ride felt better than a sixth, but when I start that far back, it's going to be a sixth, unfortunately," Hahn said. "I felt like I could've gotten up there and gotten a fourth or a fifth, but I wasted too much time at the beginning and didn't come through the way I wanted it. But I was able to stay calm and keep my head down."

Hahn has finished sixth or better in his last two races, building momentum in his rookie season on the 450. His night was punctuated by a victory in one of the semifinal races, charging around Jimmy Albertson at the finish line.

"I want to win every time when I'm on the track," Hahn said. "When there's an opportunity, I'm going to go for it."

Hahn's teammate in the 450 class, Eli Tomac, aggravated a shoulder injury during practice and was forced to miss the main event.

Wharton was going for it in 250, matching his season-best finish with a solid ride. He was second in his heat race to automatically advance to the main and then maintained fourth from the start.

"I'm just trying to make some steps in the right direction," Wharton said. "It can be a bit frustrating at times when you're not where you want to be, of course, but progression is good. I feel good on the bike, and the GEICO Honda has been great and I'm thankful for the opportunity they've given me.

"Each weekend, I want to really do them some justice, and I felt pretty good tonight, but there's definitely work to be done, as you can see."

Bogle admitted he needs to do some work, too, despite another top-five finish. He has finished third twice and fifth twice in the first four races of the 250 East season and stands fourth in points.

"Nice and consistent, but it's not going to get me in the fight for the championship," Bogle said. "I'm pretty disappointed in my night; it didn't really go that well at all. Bad starts all night, and I was riding around with the wrong pack of dudes.

"I'm not too happy with the night. Fifth is not what I want or what I'm capable of. I need to get a start and get up there and battle for the win."

Bisceglia lamented his starts, too, though he was able to rally to his second consecutive top-seven finish in his rookie season.

"I got a horrible start," Bisceglia said. "I started out of the top 10 and made as many passes as I could. I was riding really solid, and I felt pretty good until eight or 10 laps in, and I got a little bit tired and started going back a little bit.

"It was up and down, for sure. I can't complain, though. I'm out of here safe, and I had a pretty solid ride."
