Percat Looks To Build On Solid Debut

Coates Hire Racing’s Nick Percat is confident of another solid performance in the V8 Supercars races at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend.

Percat, who made his V8 championship season debut at the Clipsal 500 put in a strong drive and was on target for a podium result in Sunday’s race before grazing the wall with five laps to go, which resulted in his retirement.

This weekend’s non-championship V8 Supercars races, which run as a support to the Australian Formula One Grand Prix gives Percat the ideal opportunity to further hone his skills in Australia’s premier racing series.

Fans are in for a treat with a unique format, including dual-file rolling starts and restarts for all four races, a rolling points system to determine the starting order for each race (after race one) and double points on offer for the final hit out.

Although this will be Percat’s first taste of the Albert Park circuit in a V8 Supercar, he successfully competed there last year in the prestigious Porsche Carrera Cup, where topped the practice timesheets and then qualified on pole. He finished in the top three over the two races, mixing it with the likes of multi Carrera Cup champion Craig Baird and Bathurst winner Steven Richards.

“I learnt a lot at the Clipsal and am really looking forward to getting the Coates Hire Racing V8 Supercar onto the GP track,” said Percat.

“Although it’s another street track like Clipsal, its layout is more like a traditional race track and requires a very different set up.

“As it’s a non-championship race with a unique format, I think it intensifies the competition as nobody will be holding back. It is going to be very exciting”.
