Four Horsemen of NASCAR: BMS is the fourth largest stadium in the United States, and eighth in the world. It is eclipsed in size by fellow NASCAR tracks at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Daytona International Speedway, and Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Are You Ready for Some Football: The first-ever college football game, dubbed the Battle at Bristol, will be played on Sept. 10, 2016, between the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech. The two schools coaches’, Butch Jones (UT) and Frank Beamer (VT), will serve as Grand Marshals for Sunday’s Food City 500. The game will be the second time the World’s Fastest Half-Mile has hosted football; the first being in 1961 when the track hosted a preseason NFL game between the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles.

One and Done: Qualifying for Sunday’s NSCS race will consist of two rounds; one knockout round which will eliminate all but the top-12 fastest cars, followed by the final round to set the pole.

Jamie McMurray and No. 1 McDonald’s Team

Las Vegas Recap: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) rolled into “Sin City” for the third race of the season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS). Jamie McMurray and the No.1 Cessna Chevrolet looked to carry momentum, coming off a top-10 finish the previous week, into the first 1.5-mile track of the 2014 season. McMurray started from the seventh position, after once again making it into the final round of the new knockout qualifying on Friday afternoon, and posted a hard fought 15th place finish on Sunday afternoon.

Going The Distance: McMurray, who has 22 career NSCS starts at Bristol Motor Speedway, has been running at the finish of every race that he has competed in at the World’s Fastest Half-mile. He has completed 10,750 (97.6%) of a possible 11,013 laps and has finished on the lead lap in 12 of those 22 starts. The driver of the No. 1 McDonald’s Chevrolet SS has scored three top-five, and nine top-10 finishes with an average start of 16.5 and an average finish of 16.9 since his first start in March 2003. McMurray has a best starting position of third (Aug. 2007) and a best finish of third on two occasions (Aug. 2003 and Aug. 2010).

Short-track Style: 66 times McMurray has started a short-track race in his NSCS career; he has five top-five and 25 top-10 finishes on tracks less than one mile in length and has been running at the finish of 60 of those races (90.0%), completing 17421.7 miles of competition and has led 163 laps.

Kyle Larson and No. 42 Target Team

Las Vegas Recap: Kyle Larson and the No. 42 team continued to shows signs of moving in the right direction after riding a fast Target Chevy to another top-20 finish at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) on Sunday. Larson, who made it to the second round of qualifying on Friday afternoon, started Sunday’s Kobalt 400 in 17th position, and was one of only two rookie drivers to start in the top-20. He finished the race in 19th place.

Larson at Bristol: This will be Larson’s first NSCS start at BMS. He raced to two top-five finishes last season at the track during NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) races. In addition to Sunday’s Food City 500, Larson will also be racing with Turner Scott Motorsports in Saturday’s NNS Drive to Stop Diabetes 300.

Back in Black: Larson and Team Target will be wearing their new black Target firesuits for the first time this season. The black firesuit is one of three new suits for this season that the No. 42 Target team will be wearing.

Top-Three: Larson is currently third in driver ratings in the NASCAR Nationwide Series behind Sprint Cup regulars Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski.
