Trey Hutchens, K&N Pro Series East, Races At Bristol With Johnson City Based Borla Exhaust

Up-and-coming driver, 15 year-old Trey Hutchens, is set to tackle one of NASCAR’s toughest tracks this weekend in his fourth NASCAR K&N Pro Series start.

The fourth-generation racer returns to the track for the first time in 2014 behind the wheel of the No. 14 Borla Exhaust Chevrolet in Saturday’s PittLite 125 at Bristol Motor Speedway. “It has been an extremely long off-season for me,” Hutchens said. “Waiting since September to get back in a race car has been difficult for me, but it also has afforded us a lot of valuable time to work on our cars. Hopefully, those hours in the shop pay off for the Borla Exhaust Chevrolet on Saturday.”

Hutchens was introduced this season to Alex and Alyse Borla, Co-founders of the Johnson City, TN based company who have built one of the most recognizable exhaust brands in the automotive aftermarket. They were impressed with his maturity and determination and decided to sponsor his team at a track close to their headquarters. “Trey is impressive on many fronts, he brings with him a pedigree of racing along with the determination of a champion as demonstrated by his academic achievements,” said Alex Borla.

Trey Hutchens Racing is fielding the entry with additional sponsorship assistance from Technique Engineering Chassis Components. “I am honored to have these sponsors on-board our car this weekend,” Hutchens said. I hope to be able to exceed their expectations this Saturday and give them a reason to come back.”

Hutchens notched an eighth-place finish in his last series start in September 2013 at Dover International Speedway in only his third race. He also scored a top-15 finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and a top-20 finish at Langley Speedway last season.

In addition to his three NASCAR K&N Pro Series East starts, Hutchens finished 19th in the prestigious Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at Richmond International Raceway in 2013, and posted a 14th-place finish in the inaugural UNOH Battle at the Beach in Daytona as the youngest competitor.

The high school sophomore began his stock-car career in 2012 in the American Speed Association (ASA) Late Model Series at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C. In just 18 starts, he accumulated seven top-five and 14 top-10 finishes with a best finish of second on two occasions. Hutchens earned Rookie-of-the-Year honors and completed the season fourth in the point standings, simultaneously scoring three top-10 finishes in four starts in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Modified Series.

As a fourth generation racer, Hutchens came to his passion honestly. His great-grandfather, Claude Hutchens and grandfather, Bud Hutchens owned Modified cars that raced all over the Southeast. His father, Bobby Hutchens drove and owned Modified cars, worked for Richard Childress Racing for 20 years and is currently Competition Director for Sprint Cup Team JTG Daugherty Racing. Trey and his father build all their own K&N cars.

Off-the-track, the Lexington, N.C., native completed his freshman year in high school ranked first out of 425 students with a GPA of 5.25.

FOX Sports 1 telecasts Saturday’s PittLite125 on a delay on March 22 at 11:30 a.m. ET.
