McClelland Looks For Consistency Heading Into Lake Seminole Elite Series Event

The weather may be changing, but pro angler Mike McClelland is ready to kick off the Bassmaster Elite Series with a win at the Dick Cepek Tires Bassmaster Elite Series presented by Hardee's event this weekend on Lake Seminole.

In a time when fishing will be difficult, the Cabela's/GEICO For Your Boat angler knows that success will come to those who are consistent with their catches throughout the weekend.

"The biggest thing about Lake Seminole is that it is known for a lot of big fish being caught there," McClelland said. "The thing that is going to be key this week is catching a couple of those big ones a day.

"However, the fishing isn't really that great right now. The fish are in a big transition period in which they are moving from their pre-spawn areas up to their spawning areas, and they haven't really decided where they want to be yet. Unfortunately, it's not that great of a time. Just when you do catch a good one every now and then, that's going to be the key to success."

McClelland will have more to battle than fish transitions and the 108 other Elite Series anglers out on Lake Seminole this weekend: He will also have to brave the ever-changing weather conditions.

"The weather is going to be the biggest downfall, just like at every event we have had so far this year," McClelland said. "It seems like the weather turns sour right before the event, and that's what it's looking like again. With one extreme in temperature to the other, it's definitely going to change things up.

"A lot of the fish in Lake Seminole are really shallow and don't like that big temperature change. Water temperature especially can really vary when you get those cold nights, and that's going to make fishing this weekend a little tougher than it already was."

Even with difficult conditions, McClelland will be ready in his Cabela's/GEICO For Your Boat Stratos when the Elite Series anglers launch at 7:30 a.m. each day from Earle May Boat Basin and weigh in at 4 p.m.

"The biggest thing I'm going to have to do this weekend is slow down," McClelland said. "There's going to be a variety of ways to catch fish, everything from reaction bait to fishing really slow. If we get the sunshine and nice weather, there's definitely a chance that big fish are going to be caught. I just need to remember to take it slow."
