Houston native Mee stood proudly on the podium while fighting frustration inside after his No. 95 Alta Velocita Racing machine suffered from electrical issues.

The 30-minute sprint around Sebring International Raceway's 3.74-mile circuit started off flawlessly for Mee but quickly fell off course.

Sebring Race 1"I had a surprisingly clean start on the first lap and made it through Turn 1 and 2 great," Mee said. "I stayed right up on Brian (Alder) and a couple of the others until the third lap."

Then the No. 00 car of Owen Kratz spun, forcing Mee to lift the throttle abruptly on his car. That resulted in him spinning and an electrical shutdown.

"I think that was the beginning of the electrical problems we've been having," Mee said. "I went back out, but the car cut out again in Turn 1, and I was called in by tech, rightfully so for safety reasons. They fired it back up, but I had to nurse it the rest of the way, and I could never really pick up pace."

The ultra-competitive Mee will receive a second shot at all 17 turns of the historic road course at 11:15 a.m. (ET) Friday, March 14 for Race 2 of International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) competition.

"We're going to do our work tonight and see if we can come back and put a better effort in tomorrow," Mee said. "We're going to change out the ECU and get that installed and go out on stickers (new tires) and bring it tomorrow."
