Facu Regalia, Argentinean driver settled down in Spain, concluded his first working week as he took part in the collective tests of GP2 in Abu Dhabi. From Tuesday to Thursday Regalia was able to join for first time on track his new team in GP2, when he is debuting in the series, SFIF1 GP2 Team. The young driver, a newcomer to the force India Driver Academy, experienced some engine issues on day one in the morning, but when they were solved he started to focus on improving. On his second set of tires he was 8th but, due to a lack of time, could not use his third set of tires – unlike other drivers- and finished 16th with a lap of 1:50.289.

On the second day, Regalia could not start in a positive way as, during his installation lap, Connor Daly crashed into him, so Argentina´s driver wasn´t able to complete a single lap. Then in the afternoon, Regalia and his engineer concentrated on the car set-up, finishing this session 5th posting a lap of 1:51.614 and proving that both driver and team are following the right path.

Finally, on Thursday, the final day – windy and sandy one- was focused on long runs to prepare races properly. Therefore unlike his teammate Daniel Abt – who set some qualifying laps- Regalia finished further behind in yesterday´s rankings. His lap of 1:52.846 was 13th fastest yesterday.

Now, Regalia is already preparing next collective tests taking place at the Bahrain International Circuit, starting next Wednesday. They will be the most important days this Winter as the season kicks off there in April.

Facu Regalia: “Our first day was not positive because of these engine issues, but finally when they were solved we could perform well, working on the set-up, and I was in top-ten with used tires. With my second set of fresh tires I was 8th, but due to a lack of time we were not able to use the third. But our pace was to finish in top-six. It was a good start with my new team. Then, on day two, everything was disrupted with the crash with Connor Daly. But the car was quite competitive in the afternoon on the second set of tires and we were second fastest with medium compound. It was a result lending me encouragement and confidence for the future. The final day was a busy one, as we tested several different things, including super-soft and medium compounds and focusing on long runs. We have lots of information for Bahrain, and we know and identify those areas in which we want to improve. It is a new track for me, but I want to learn it as soon as possible in order to keep working for this season”.
