The LADA Sport Lukoil team unveiled yesterday its Granta WTCC car in TC1 specifications.

The Russian saloon has been completely redesigned, in cooperation between LADA Sport and Oreca, to comply with the 2014 FIA technical regulations and appears considerably wider and lower than the previous model that competed last year.

The LADA Sport Lukoil team will field three works cars for Thompson, Huff and Mikhail Kozlovskiy.

In Short...

The ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport keeps on racing in WTCC with two Chevrolet Cruze cars for team principal René Münnich and former F1 driver Gianni Morbidelli.

The German outfit joined the championship last year with three SEAT León vehicles, claiming two race victories with Rob Huff at Budapest and Macau.

For the new season the team purchased two RML-built Chevrolet Cruze TC1 cars. “I received a last minute offer to buy them, and could not drop the opportunity. We are eager to benefit from the experience we won last year and are very much looking forward to the new season,” Münnich explained.

Sixty-seven F1 Grands Prix and the 1989 Italian F3 Championship title are the brightest jewels in Gianni Morbidelli’s racing career.
However, the 46-year old Italian gave proof to be very competitive in touring car competition as well. He claimed victories in the Italian and European championships for BMW and Alfa Romeo, while in recent years emerged as the dominator of the Superstars Championship clinching four titles between 2007 and 2013 at the wheel of Audi and BMW cars.

The son of Giancarlo Morbidelli, founder and innovative designer of the Morbidelli motorcycling company that won four world championship titles in the Seventies, Gianni is not new to WTCC. He took part in the 2006 championship with the Alfa Romeo team, finishing twice second in Brazil and Mexico.

The beautiful Alfa Romeo 4C sports car, has been selected as the safety car for the 2014 FIA WTCC.
The captivating, multi-award-winning coupé will make its maiden track appearance at Marrakech on April 12 and 13, sporting a special livery.

The Alfa Romeo 4C was chosen by the championship promoter, Eurosport Events, following the awarding of the Grand Prize as Most Beautiful Car of 2013 at the 29th International Automobile Festival in Paris.

The Italian compact supercar won the poll run on Eurosport’s website network, organised in partnership with the International Automobile Festival.

The Wiechers-Sport team decided to take a sabbatical year in 2014 and focusing on rejoining WTCC in 2015.

The German outfit has taken part in the championship with BMW cars since the inaugural season in 2005, claiming two Independents’ Trophy with Marc Hennerici in 2005 and Stefano D’Aste in 2007 and three outright race victories with D’Aste in 2012 (Austria and Japan) and José María López in 2013 (Argentina).

Team manager Dominik Greiner explained: “We have worked hard until the last possible day in order to secure a full season programme, but we did not succeed to put together a solid financial basis. It is really tough for us not to be in the championship after nine successful years. Our target is to be back in 2015 with a competitive TC1 car, as we believe that the championship has a great potential to grow further up under the new technical regulations.”
