2014 Australia GP: FIA Stewards Inquiry Into Vettel, Magnussen

By PaddockTalk.com Staff Writers

Following the accident with Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari during qualifying for the 2014 Formula One F1 Australian Grand Prix in Albert Park the Stewards called drivers Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) and Kevin Magnussen (McLaren) before them following a report from Race director Charlie Whiting which indicated they had failed to slow for yellow flags.

The Stewards reviewed FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations and of Appendix L Chapter IV, Article 1 and Appendix H, Article 2.4.5.1 (b) of the FIA International Sporting Code, examined video/audio/telemetry evidence and heard from the drivers and teams in question.

Vettel was cleared based on his "explanation" which was "supported by the telemetry" that Vettel had "slowed sufficiently and was fully in control."

Kevin Magnussen's "telemetry was inconclusive due to very different track conditions between laps", but the Stewards were satisfied from the video and the driver’s explanation that he was sufficiently slow and under control."
