2014 Australian GP: No Penalty for Alonso, Bottas & Guterrez Going Backwards

By PaddockTalk.com Staff Writers

During Formula One F1 qualifying for the 2014 Australian Grand Prix the FIA Stewards received a report from Race Director Charlie Whiting alleging that Fernando Alonso and his No. 14 Ferrari impeded the car Esteban Gutierrez and his No. 21 Sauber during Q1 in Turn 1. The incident would have been a breach of Article 31.7 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations, however, after reviewing video and talking to both drivers the Stewards were satisfied that no infraction had taken place.

However, Esteban Gutierrez will be going backwards five positions on the grid due to a premature gearbox change (gearboxes must last six consecutive events. Valtteri Bottas and his No. 77 Williams will suffering the same fate after qualifying P10.
