Walker Overcomes Fog-Shortened Day On Lake Seminole To Advance

Pro angler David Walker survived the cut Friday at the Dick Cepek Tires Bassmaster Elite Series presented by Hardee's event on Lake Seminole despite weather conditions causing some disturbance.

A stellar first-day stringer helped keep the Cabela's/GEICO For Your Boat Elite angler afloat after a second day of fishing that had most of the pros struggling.

"It was obviously tougher for me today because I wasn't able to cull much," Walker said. "That's the key in these tournaments, catching a number of fish in order to cull your way up to a bigger stringer. However, the good news is I managed to catch enough to live to fight another day, so to speak. Tomorrow I'm going to work at it, and I think my chances are good."

Optimism is running high for Walker, who predicts that Saturday's weather conditions should mirror the first day of competition when he really excelled.

"It was a little bit warmer than what I was planning on today," Walker said, "with the wind coming around and blowing from the opposite direction than what it was blowing the day before. Overall the conditions were really similar to yesterday, aside from starting the morning off with almost a two-hour fog delay.

"The wakes were down, and for whatever reason fog-delay days are usually tougher fishing days. Those high-pressure, blue-bird skies make it tough for fishing. I will imagine that tomorrow conditions will be like they were the first day, and we will get some more big bags because of it."

Big catches Saturday will be the only way to move forward in the tournament, Walker said, and he knows that this is his best chance.

"I'm expecting to catch another 20-pound stringer tomorrow," Walker said. "If I fall short of that I'll be disappointed, but if I can catch that, that may very well be what clinches my ticket for Sunday fishing, and I think I'm ready for that."

Walker needs to finish in the top 12 to advance to Sunday's final day, when the winner of the Elite Series event is determined.
