2014 Sebring 12: Ford USCR Post-Race Quotes

No. 01 Telcel Ford EcoBoost Riley

Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates

MARINO FRANCHITTI: "We’ve come from a lot of hard work with the new rules, with the new engine and all of the development behind that. We’ve been working so hard, especially the team in Indianapolis. I was gutted not to get to the podium (at the Rolex 24). (This finish) was incredible. I just couldn’t believe we were in the position to go for the win. I knew it was ours to lose and I had to keep hitting my marks and getting my laps in. The car was really good in night practice and I thought it would come back just a little bit in the dark, which it did…I’m sort of struggling to sort of sit here and, look at our names at the top, being victorious at Sebring. I’ve finished second overall here a couple times. I won P2 last year, but to win overall, we’re now going to see the Ford banner up there on the pit when I come back next year, that’s pretty special. This was certainly the biggest day of my career and for Chip (Ganassi) to win his first Sebring 12 Hours, it’s just been amazing."

SCOTT PRUETT: "It’s been a heck of a winter. Like Marino said, thanks to these guys, because it’s a team effort. What Memo did, what Marino did. 12 Hours, all the guys working together. The car was a handful for quite a while. We were just struggling to hold onto it. But we kept digging and the Ganassi organization. It’s even more special for me, because the last time I won in class was in 1986, so it’s nice to come back and win overall with Ford in 2014. Even more special because this is one of those races that I hadn’t, and I didn’t think I would get that opportunity. To see the two groups come together and what the future looks like for road racing, it’s a pretty special thing right now."

MEMO ROJAS: "I am very proud to be among those who have won this race. Those last 20 minutes were tough. It was one of those races you hope to win and be in a position to win it shows how hard our Ganassi team worked to do it. I want to thank my sponsor, Mr. Carlos Slim, TelCel and the others who have helped me to put me in this position. It is incredible that I am here."

RAJ NAIR, Group Vice President, Ford Global Product Development: "It was a great day. The first win overall for Ford since 1969 and at the same time, the first with our partners in Ganassi here at Sebring, and in only the second race on the new engine. It just doesn’t get any better than this."

JAMIE ALLISON, Director: "You read about stuff like this. The last time Ford won overall was in 1969 and what really makes it so sweet is that this is a win made possible by a production-based Ford EcoBoost. Literally it comes out of our production vehicle. It just makes it so, so sweet because it validates what we do at Ford, that the technology we have in our cars is good enough to power an all-out win here at the Sebring 12 Hour."

MARK RUSHBROOK, Operations Manager, Ford Racing: "What the team has been through at the Roar, all the improvements that have been made getting to Daytona, not the results that we wanted there but the team just stuck together, both of our race teams with Michael Shank Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing and everybody at Ford with product development and Ford Racing overcoming all the issues that we had and putting forth a really strong effort today and the calls that the team made coming in with the pit calls and everything, got us track position at the end and Marino drove a great last stint and put us in victory lane. We’re delighted to be here."

DAVE SIMON, Ford Racing Engine Engineering Manager: "It is an amazing feeling. I haven’t calmed down yet. I think the last 10 laps of that race were the most stressful 10 laps of a race I’ve ever had to live through. Marino did a great job. What a great drive. There’s just a sense of pride. There’s a ton of hard work and a lot of people that went into making this victory happen. All the guys at Ford Motor Company on the production side, the 3.5-liter design. The guys that worked on this project. Everyone at Ford Racing and Roush Yates - they got these engines to the race track and made them as powerful and as durable as they are. It’s just a huge sense of pride. Not only for everyone who worked on the project but for Ford Motor Company and Chip Ganassi Racing. It’s just a great day for everybody to be in victory lane in Sebring for the first time since 1969 (overall)."

JOHN MADDOX, Roush Yates Ford Sports Car Program Manager: "This race is so tough. There are so many emotions. The reality of it is I’m so proud of what our company has done to make this happen. It’s not me, it’s everybody back at the company. I’m just a little part of a big company. It’s a great thing. We’re proud of our team members, our partners, everyone back at Ford Motor Company. It’s a big effort that everybody had a part in and we’re just glad to be here."
