Rookie Contender Chris Buescher Finishes 15th In Bristol

After a season best finish of seventh at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2013, Chris Buescher headed to the World’s Fastest Half Mile with high hopes. The rookie of the year contender began the day in the 13th position and jumped up three spots during the first lap but a caution came out early and the No. 60 Ford EcoBoost Mustang was shuffled back on the first restart of the day. The Roush Fenway Racing driver wound up two laps down but was able to get caught up to speed towards the end of the race, and settled for a 16th place finish when the checkered flag waved.

“It was pretty decent,” said Buescher regarding his car. “We were a little bit tight right off the get-go and that got us behind. We ended up two laps down, but these guys kept digging on it and got it a lot better. The EcoBoost Ford Mustang was good there towards the end, but those restarts are just crazy. I’m pretty happy with where we ended. It’s good to know going into the next Bristol because I think we’ll have a good baseline right off the truck.”

The No. 60 team was able to significantly improve their Ford from 16th fastest during first practice to 9th in final practice. They made a solid effort during their qualifying run, and ended up just outside of the top 12 in the first round after deciding it would be better to stay out and settle for the 13th spot than put more laps on the tires in an attempt to make the second round.
The Prosper, TX native got off to a quick start during the Drive to Stop Diabetes 300, jumping from the 13th to 10th position in just one lap. After a caution came out on lap 4, he was shuffled back to the 19th spot on the first restart and was unable to get caught up during the remainder of the race.

Buescher would eventually fall two laps down but the Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender fought hard to hold on throughout the day. The team made some good adjustments, getting the car to Buescher’s liking. Near the end of the 150 mile race he maneuvered his Ford up through the field during the final laps taking the checkered flag in the 16th-position.
