Bayne Finishes Eight in Bristol; Gains on Points Leader

Roush Fenway Racing’s NASCARNationwide Series (NNS) veteran Trevor Bayne finished eighth at Bristol Motor Speedway in Saturday’s Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 presented by Lilly Diabetes. Bayne pulled within one point of NNS point leader, Regan Smith.

Bayne, despite piloting an ill-handling Mustang, managed to stay in the top-10 for the majority of Saturday’s NASCAR NNS race at Bristol.

“It’s another top-10 here," said Bayne. "It’s not what you want, you want to be running top-five and contending for wins, but in the meantime we’re still gaining on the points leader.”

Bayne rolled off 14th in his AdvoCare Mustang and quickly radioed in that his car was extremely tight through the middle of the corners and loose on exit. Bayne quickly found himself shuffled back to 19th.

Crew Chief Chad Norris called his driver down pit road on lap 94 under yellow flag conditions for adjustments. The team took a big swing at it, trackbar, wedge and air pressure adjustments were all made to the No.6 Mustang.

Bayne radioed in that the adjustments helped the handling, but it could still be better. Norris called his driver back down pit road on lap 212 for air pressure adjustments, the driver blended back into the field in the 10thposition.

Bayne remained in the 10th position as the laps dwindled down, passing two more cars to take the checkers in eighth and pulling within one point of the NNS point leader, Regan Smith. The team returns to the west coast next week for the Treatmyclot.com 300 at the two-mile Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.
