Ende, And His Manstache, Leads At Sebring But Settles For Second Step On The Podium

Duncan Ende scored his second podium finish at the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring on Saturday, as the car he shared with Bruno Junqueira and David Heinemeier Hansson finished in second place in the Prototype Challenge class - finishing 2.4 seconds behind the winning car.

The twelve-hour contest started with the no. 09 Lino'spresso USA / RSR Racing Oreca FLM09 starting from the pole position in its class. Taking two different turns at the wheel, Ende maintained the lead built up by Junqueira in the early periods of the race. Although several long caution periods would interrupt his stints, Ende enjoyed a long run at the head of the Prototype Challenge field.

Ultimately, the caution in the race's final hour would hamper the team's chances at victory. Good on fuel to the finish, the caution enabled the leading CORE Autosport car to be able to make it to the finish on fuel. In a thrilling battle over the closing stages, Junqueira battled for the lead but came up just a little bit short.

"It's difficult to lose such a close race, but when you have two well-prepared cars with two good driver lineups, it's no surprise that the race ended up as close as it did," said Ende. "The RSR Racing guys gave us a great car, and as we all saw by Bruno's lap in qualifying, the car was very fast. But things just didn't quite work out for us at the end of the race. It's tough to miss out on the win by such a small amount, but at the same time, it was a great effort by the RSR Racing team and by Bruno and DHH."

The result was also a much better performance than the team enjoyed at Daytona, where a mechanical failure put the RSR Racing car out of contention in the race's first hour.

"It was nice to rebound from a really difficult weekend in Daytona to be fighting for the win in Sebring," said Ende. "We are in a bit of a hole in the championship now but we have the speed and the team to fight for wins at each race. If we can keep this up, the championship should work out."

The next TUDOR Series round for Duncan Ende and the RSR Racing team will be the Continental Tire Monterey Powered by Mazda on May 3-4 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
