UAE Sportbike Championship Rounds 13 & 14 at Dubai Autodrome on Friday

Abdulaziz Binladen continued his impressive streak of wins in the 2013-2014 UAE Sportbike Championship by winning both races at the Dubai Autodrome on Friday (21 March) and setting himself up to claim the prestigious UAE title on the final day of the season next month.

Binladen aboard the all conquering Liberty Kawasaki dominated proceedings in the 600 Class during a hot day on the tricky International Circuit configuration. The Saudi rider setting the fastest lap of the day in the process.

He said afterwards, "Once again my crew and Liberty Kawasaki gave me a great motorcycle on the day, I was able to control the pace and taking two wins sets the stage for a great final day of the championship. The game plan is to win the final two races and take the championship in style."

Defending champion Mahmoud Tannir, riding a Honda for only the second time, was best of the rest and finishing second in both races. Despite this the Dubai based Lebansese rider has not thrown in the towel, and goes to the final round only eight points adrift of top spot and will continue to challenge Binladen's title ambitions to the very last lap of the season.

Tannir said, "This was a good day for us as our new Honda gets better wth every race. I managed to set a personal best by a full second in Race 2 where we were much closer to Abdulaziz. We are still experimenting and there is still much to come from the bike."

"The next two races are on the Club Circuit at Dubai Autodrome where I believe our package will perform really well. So we head there determined to keep our title and challenging for two wins on the final race day of the season," added Tannir.

Gernot Dobida made a welcome return to the national scene on the ex-Alan Boyter Triumph, and finished third in both races and declared, "It is really great to be back, had great fun. A little bit rusty but great to ride the Triumph for only the second time and which is really smooth. Looking forward to the next one."

Two victories on the day ensured that Yamaha rider Michael Collins wrapped up the presitigous Rookie Cup with two races still to go.

He said of his title clinching double win, "It was a good day, which started a bit slow but as the day warmed up we got faster. I am pretty ecstatic to have won the Rookie Cup, showing this year I can mix it with the fast guys. This sets the stage to challenge them again next season.

Ahmed Khammas (Yamaha) and Nasir Hussain (Triumph) were second and third, respectively, in both races.

The final race day of the season, featuring the final two decsisive races of the 2013-2014 UAE Sportbike Championship, will place at Dubai Autodrome on 11 April.
