Percat's New Colours In Tasmania

After finishing just outside the overall top ten in the V8 Supercar races at the Australian Grand Prix, Coates Hire Racing’s Nick Percat is looking forward to another strong performance at Symmons Plains this weekend.

Percat will also be sporting a new look, with his #222 car morphing from the orange hue of Coates Hire to the colours of Heavy Haulage Australia, as part of a co-operative sponsorship between the two iconic companies.

Coates Hire has supported Percat since 2011 and will continue to have prominent signage on the Walkinshaw Racing Holden Commodore.

The last time Percat raced at Symmons Plains was in 2009 behind the wheel of a Formula Ford, and the South Australian won two of the three races and finished third in the other to take the round win.

He is now looking forward to tackling the circuit in a V8 Supercar for the first time and before heading to Tasmania Percat said: “It was great to have the Coates Hire car to start the year, as I started my V8 Supercars career with them and to now have Heavy Haulage Australia as the major sponsor and still with Coates Hire on there is a really good combination.

“I think the car looks great. The nice Tassy sun with the picturesque track and the green background will make the silver stand out. Hopefully everyone will see it coming up and passing them and it will be a really good weekend for us”.

The second round of the V8 Supercars Championship, the Tyrepower Tasmania 400 includes two 42-lap races on Saturday and a single 84-lap race on the Sunday, around the 2.4 kilometre track.

At Symmons Plains last year Fabian Coulthard took two wins, (his maiden championship race victory) with BJR teammate Jason Bright taking the third.

Heading into this round Holden drivers occupy the top three spots in the championship with Craig Lowndes leading from Fabian Coulthard and Shane van Gisbergen.

Symmons Plains Track Facts:

• This year is the 45th anniversary of the first Australian Touring Car Championship event held at Symmons Plains in 1969. it was the final round of that year's championship and won by Norm Beechey's Monaro GTS 327 by just 0.3s from the Porsche 911S of Alan Hamilton, thereby denying the latter the championship, which was won by the late Ian Geoghegan for the fifth time
• This is the 42nd time the Australian Touring CarChampionship/V8 Supercars have competed at Symmons Plains. Only Sandown Park has hosted more (44).
• The Symmons Plains track opened in 1960 on land owned by the Youl family who were graziers.
• Brothers John and Gavin Youl were accomplished racing drivers who competed in the Australian Driver’s Championship for the Gold Star as well as the Tasman series which featured Sir Jack Brabham, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Bruce McLaren and Jackie Stewart.
