Ghiotto Kicks-Off Jerez Wsr Test With A Top Ten Performance

With the start of the 2014 World Series by Renault season getting closer and closer (the first race is scheduled for April 12-13 in Monza) Luca Ghiotto is on a steadily improving trend. In Jerez de la Frontera, the renowned Spanish track where Renault Sport elected to hold the last pre-season test, the driver from Vicenza shone already in Day 1, despite being at his first drive on such a challenging track.

After a difficult start in the morning session, that saw him stuck in the gravel after couple of hours due to a mistake on cold brakes, Luca fought back proudly building up his confidence one outing after the other and ending the day with an astounding 40 laps under his belt.
The icing on the cake came in the afternoon session, that saw Ghiotto nail a perfect lap in the last three minutes of the day, just after his previous run had been ruined by a red flag. Despite the huge pressure linked to a “Superpole”situation, the Italian driver coped with it well and posted the 9th quickest time of the afternoon, quicker than his most experience team-mate Pietro Fantin.

Luca Ghiotto: S1 – P15; S2 – P9
“I’m quite happy with my day. In the morning the car felt ok but I overdrove a bit when the brakes where still cold and I ended up in the gravel. The afternoon was much better, both on used and new rubber. In my last run I was ready to make the most of the extra grip provided by fresh Michelins, but the red flag was waved after Nato went off. The track went back to green with just three minutes to go and at the moment it was like a ‘Superpole’ a situation I had never faced in my career. I nailed a very good lap at the first try, and frankly I’m really happy that I coped with such a stressful situation that well”.
