Swiss racing driver Ralph Boschung returns to the German-based ADAC Formel Masters this season after switching to the front-running LOTUS outfit.

Having graduated from the 2012 Formula BMW Talent Cup – he claimed a win in the Grand Final as its youngest competitor – Ralph went on to secure six podium finishes and one victory in last season’s ADAC Formel Masters, making him the third-youngest winner in its history. Those performances earned the 16-year-old significant praise and established him amongst the finest up-and-coming racers in Europe.

In order to achieve his goals, Boschung can rely on the skills, experience and winning expertise of LOTUS, which is overseen by Timo Rumpfkeil’s Motopark Academy squad. Indeed, Ralph’s new outfit clinched both the Drivers’ and Teams’ crowns as Motopark in 2011, before adding another Teams’ title in the first year of its LOTUS partnership the following season.

With eight meetings spread across Germany, Austria, The Netherlands and Slovakia, the championship offers young talent an opportunity to acclimatise to single-seater competition. Each round comprises three races in which drivers battle it out in Dallara-designed machines fitted with 1.6-litre Volkswagen engines delivering 145bhp.

The series has nurtured a raft of top drivers in recent years, such as four-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel, four-time grand prix winner Nico Rosberg and current F1 superstar Nico Hulkenberg.

Boschung’s first official outing with LOTUS came during the championship’s recent test session held at Zandvoort, The Netherlands, on March 22-24.

Ralph Boschung: “I am delighted to be joining LOTUS, a great team that is already established among the championship’s frontrunners.

“After successful testing in Spain and Portugal this winter, I was really looking forward to working with them and stepping up my preparation ahead of the new ADAC racing season.

“LOTUS have the skills and experience to help me achieve my goal of improving and securing more wins this year. With such competent engineers and mechanics onboard I am sure we can make steady progress in the car and fine-tune my racecraft. What’s more, after learning the ropes last season, I feel increasingly confident ahead of the upcoming campaign. As always, consistency will be the key.

“I would also like to extend my warmest thanks to my main partners B63 and PETROL ENERGY who will accompany me throughout the year, as well as Hublot, Avanthay&Partners and Audi. I am also grateful to the ‘Club 50’ members for their financial support.”

The opening round of this year’s ADAC Formel Masters takes place at Oschersleben on April 25-27.

2014 ADAC Formel Masters Calendar:
1. Oschersleben, Germany: 25-27 April
2. Zandvoort, The Netherlands: 09-11 May
3. Lausitzring, Germany: 23-25 May
