Draco Tops The Sheets With Fantin On Final Day Of Jerez Testing

Draco Racing ended the F.Renault 3.5 pre-season spell on a high, topping the sheets on the third and final day of the Jerez test. The Italo-Brazilian outfit gave proof of their strength just two weeks ahead of the Monza season opener posting the quickest laptime of the day with Pietro Fantin: with a 1’25”945, the Brazilian talent was the only driver to break the 1’26 mark, making the most of the extra grip provided by a set of new Michelins fitted to simulate a qualification run. Most of his fellow competitors were on low fuel and fresh rubber too, but despite that simulations nobody could match Pietro’s mindboggling pace. Italian rookie Luca Ghiotto played his part too in Draco’s amazing day: the driver from Vicenza was actually as fast as his team-mate in Sector 1 and Sector 2, and only a mistake at Turn 13 prevented him from posting a laptime that would have meant a one-two for Draco. Luca then carried out his first ever race simulation on the Zytek-powered Dallara, completing a flawless day in the best possible way. In the afternoon both Fantin and Ghiotto focused on pit-stop practice, and they are now ready to tackle the competition in Monza.

“I’m really happy with how we tackled this three-day test. Yesterday we had already made a good step in the right direction, but today’s improvement was massive. The team gave me a nearly perfect car and I nailed a quite ideal lap, it doesn’t get better than that. The best time overall is the deserved prize for the team’s amazing job, especially my engineer’s as he was to one who came up with the right tweaks to make up for the downforce we lost with the sideskirts being banned. We go to Monza knowing that we can aim for the win, I’m really looking forward to the first race”.

Luca Ghiotto: S1 - P12; S2 - P21
"Yesterday hadn’t been such a great day for me but I’m really happy with today’s outcome. In the morning session I could finally assess my pace on new rubber and I was satisfied with what I saw. Not only my quickest laptime was just 0”3 shy of today’s best, but without a mistake I made on the last corner the ‘virtual pole’ would have been in my reach. The race simulation went well too, especially considering it was my first ever on this car; despite that I managed to match the pace of an experienced driver such as my team-mate Fantin, who is at his second season in F.Renault 3.5. Looking to Monza’s season opener I feel confident, knowing that I have what it takes to fight on a par with the quickest drivers on the grid”.
