2014 Malaysia GP: Formula One F1 Practice One Results - Hamilton, Mercedes On Top!

By PaddockTalk.com Staff Writers

The Formula One F1 series returned to action today at the Sepang International Circuit in Sepang, Malaysia in preparation for the 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix. Leading the way was Lewis Hamilton and his No. 44 Mercedes with a best lap of 1:40.691 out of 19 total. Hamilton went into the Australian Grand Prix with high hopes until a mechanical DNF put him out of the race. He is looking to turn that around this weekend.

While there have been some complaints of slower cars, Hamilton's time was approximately four seconds slower than the fastest qualifying time from 2013. We expect those times to drop as they did in Australia.

Second quick was Kimi Raikkonen and his No. 7 Ferrari with a lap of 1:40.843 - just 0.152 behind Hamilton. Raikkonen's first race with went OK, he'll be looking for more this weekend.

2014 Australian Grand Prix winner Nico Rosberg and his No. 6 Mercedes was third quick at 1:41.028.

Jenson Button and his No. 22 McLaren-Mercedes was fourth fastest followed by Kevin Magnussen (McLaren-Mercedes), Jean-Eric Vergne (STR-Renault), Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull Racing-Renault), Nico Hulkenberg (Force India-Mercedes), Felipe Massa (Williams-Mercedes), and Valtteri Bottas (Williams-Mercedes).

Overall, 19 Formula One F1 entries turned hot laps. Lotus continued to struggle with their pair of entries putting up no timed laps.
